...do a tribute model to one of their older watches? I guess they did with the expy II, but only slightly with the hand.

This is fairly common in other brands.

Blancpain did a tribute to Fifty Fathoms
JLC does frequent tribute to Reverso, Deepsea, +many more
Cacheron Constantin tribute to American 1921
Tudor and the Heritage chrono.
Panerai....too many to mention!

I don't know, but I'm just not excited about any new Rolex. I think I really like the designs more from yesteryear. They can still have all the modern clasps, bezels, etc, but why not bring back some amazing pieces from the past?

Could you imagine how a popular a modern interpretation of this would be?

It depends. Are you talking about bringing back a design from the past, and apply it on an existing current model? Like how it happened on the Blancpain FF Tribute model? Then no, it won't happen. Rolex believe in gradual, slow evolution. They produce basically the same watches all the time, but with some technical improvements applied along the way. If you compare for example the 116610LN to the 1680, it's the same thing, but the Sub-C is more advanced technically. You can be assured the next time Rolex touches the Sub, it will be because they want to implement a technical improvement. If they just brought back something from the past, it would be hard to justify it as an evolution. Throw-back is not evolutionary. Rolex won't do u-turns.

Of course there were some exceptions along the way, e.g. they could justify bringing back the Milgauss after it was on hibernation for a while. So if you're talking about the possibility of bringing back a discontinued model to life, then it _might_ happen. But I'm not sure how many old models do Rolex have that were discontinued, without a successor model. Any tips?

On a personal note: I would _love_ to have a DJ heritage model that clones the looks of the first DJ generation (4467). Or a special Sub heritage model with plastic crystal, matte dial, open hour markers, GlideLock, metal bezel. Yeah, both won't happen...

Why? I'm 33 years old and these watches mean nothing more to me other then that they are beautiful watches.

I love the newer models more and hope to enjoy then for 40+ years. No need to see another one at that time, I already got the original!

With proper care, these watches last a generation, so why bother re-issuing them

IWC has the vintage collection. Maybe Rolex will do something like that at some point. Who knows.

They did re-release it, but it was pretty different with dial colors and crystals. I guess I'm looking for "more" of an homage. I was waiting for someone to bring this up. This is what has me hopeful for a 3, 6, 9.
