No watch.....just the box

Admittedly this is a fairly rare find to have a Rolex Explorer II 1655 sticker on the box, but the price is very high and it hasn't even reached the reserve at $721

Crazy, especially when you consider that a big part of the price is the cheap paper sticker on the side of the box.

at least half of it i reckon. the box is in good condition though, still about $300 would be usual

A high price I agree.....
However, factor in the age and condition, plus the WIS in need of such an item to complete the set, my thought is the sky's the limit!

Just take a look at the FS section here for Rolex related items...The price is always what someone is willing to pay in the end!

Amazing what a small price tag like sticker can do to the price.

These vintage boxes are special.....especially when you have regard to the green plastic/vinyl ones of today where there is a tendency for the lid to weld itself to the base and create an impenetrable tomb for your watch

That is just CRAZY. I guess if it is what you need to complete the package..........I can't believe the reserve hasn't been met.

Well--it is high price indeed! The Seahorse box sets go for close to $500 alone though. People will do anything sometimes to put together their perfect set--let's hope the watch that goes inside is worth it as that is what matters to me...

It's a few hundred USD/EUR/quid more than a comparable "plain" inner and outer box set. But if it were to complete a grail quality 1655 with original punched papers, booklet, etc., the buyer would more than get that cost back if he were to sell the set at a future date.

Well said Ken! Would that be the same style box for a 1680?

The Seahorse boxes rather expensive. $750 is very high though. Normally they run around $400 - $500.

It didn't even meet the reserve
The seller was in the Netherlands. I've seen some high prices for vintage Rolex watches there before, but the quality has been high too
