Icon7 Using a Caliper to Identify Fakes

Don't know if this has been covered before, but how reasonable would it be to use a caliper to ID fake Rolexes?

I mean, yeah, sure, to the naked eye, many fakes look really, really good. Say one was looking for a Sub. Measure many points on a sub with a caliper, and then, assuming you are able to actually hold the watch before a purchase, measure those same points on the watch in question.

If the specs are off, then wouldn't it be safe to say that it's fake? I mean, Rolex uses CNC machines (right) to manufacture their stuff, so wouldn't all watches be the same specs?

Anyway, it's just an idea. Maybe a crazy one, but I was just curious...

The only way to truly guarantee you have a genuine Rolex buy from AD or very reliable source,or get the back off to check movement. The fakes are getting that good now the cases can be the exact size as genuine.

Yeah, I know, pop the back...

But, I'm talking about measuring things like crown stems, crown diameter/height, lug width (internal & external), clasp length/width.

Wait...now that I think about it -- I guess this is what the "fakers" do so that they can build a nearly perfect copy.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Look at the shape of the CG and winding crown. They tend to be off - especially the CG. Also, the fakes have sharper edges on bracelet. The lum is another weak point on fakes - they do not shine as long and the color is different.
