Is the new 42mm explorer II too large for the Asian market?

It seems that Asia has become the strongest market for Rolex today. I've heard many AD's and former AD's say that Rolex is growing in China and southeast Asia so fast that they can charge more for the watches there than in Europe or the USA. If this is a fact I wonder what will happen to the new Explorer II which is 42mm large. Will it be too large for that market? If so how will that affect it's value when it first arrives? Will many 42's become available in the second hand market within a year when Asian men get rid of them because they are too large?

I know that a lot of Korean men wear huge watches, so I believe Rolex is okay there. But China is the big pond, and I do not believe the 42 will be welcomed as much as it will be in the States.

Are you trying to say that Asian men can not or will not be able to wear a watch that is 42mm in diameter?
Did you know Panerai watches are very popular in Asia.

(whether a large watch will "fit properly" is another issue...)

bigger diameter watches are very popular globally, Rolex will sell lots of 42mm watches in Asia.

Mainland, not including Hong Kong and Macau and Taiwan, is not in love with PAMs, as beautiful as they may be. EXP 42 will undoubtedly sell lots and lots in HK, but in mainland maybe not as much. Just my two cents.

Is 42mm large by modern standards? PO's and speedmasters are 42mm. You'd struggle to find a Breitling and even Tag's smaller.

Rolex are just trying to catch up with the modern trend which is a good move for them.

I wonder whether the new explorer will wear even larger than 42mm, bit like the sub c wears larger than 40mm.

Yes, too large. The Asian market is the only reason Panerai makes a 40mm.

I can't see how sectioning a race of people based on the size of a watch has any real bearing to a legitimate and friendly discussion!
People, regardless of race, colour or any other minority, have the right to chose any product big or small.
By singling out a group, you are only going to cause conflict and arguments.
Therefore, this topic is over.

This forum has a wide range of diversified membership..
We are all entitled to to our opinions, but when the need to bias a group of people arises, a swift end is needed!
The TRF forum is all about friendship without boundaries, let's keep it that way!
