Possible relocation to South Florida.

I might relocated to sunny FL in a few weeks.

I have a few places in mind (Sarasota, St Petersburg, Tampa, Naples, Ft Myers and Cape Coral).

Anyone has any feedback, pros and cons?

Sarasota. You will be close to Tampa, Tampa is a nice city. Sarasota has great beaches.

It sounds like you're thinking of the west coast. St. Petersburg is a fun area. Close to Tampa, but it has it's own downtown area, museums, and beaches.

The entire west coast was ravaged by foreclosures. You should be able to find a deal if you're buying.

Naples is quiet. Too quiet for me.

Venice Beach is artsy and fun.

The west coast is primarily Mid-Western transplants. The east coast is primarily NE transplants. They tend to follow either I-75 or I-95 down to Florida.

When my partner retires in 10 years we will be relocating to Ft Lauderdale, I love Broward and Dade county Miami is not far away and there is enough nightlife. Also we have family who live in the area so its just like home without all the joint pain. Love the weather in South Florida, whenever I m down there I never have pain or allergies.

I also prefer ft lauderdale. It's a great location and I like the east coast.

I'm an east coaster myself. Naples, Ft. Myers, Sarasota are too quiet, no nightlife, and no one under 70 (of course I've only got 2 years to go make that requirement ).

We're in Boca - 17 floors up on the ocean. Love the ocean breezes. Never gets above 90 F (course it doesn't get much below that either ).

Ft. Lauderdale and Del Ray have some great eating, as does Miami, which is close enough to go for an evening out.

Ft Lauderdale is great if you do a lot of cruising you can get some great last minute deals. Also Ft Lauderdale has a huge gay community so my partner and I can live around other gay retired couples.

Yep - Southwest FL, home of the Newly Wed and the Nearly Dead.

However, Clearwater, Readington Beach, etc are fantastic. We vacation there often. Love the Tampa area!

I enjoy watching "The First 48 Hours" featuring the Miami Florida detective's, real live stories of different cases of murder, with no Hollywood stuff. To me it seems Miami is a murder capitol , where any kind of person is getting wacked.

http://www.aetv.com/the_first_48/detectives/ Great information here.

Exactly.

BTW, "South Florida" refers to the portion of the state generally south of Lake O, and for us locals, really just Naples-Fort Meyers, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Us native Floridians tend to prefer the term "God's waiting room".

I worked in St. Pete and Tampa for a few years.

Tampa is definately more busy and St. Pete is quieter.

Whatever you do, stay as close to the shore as possible. I don't mean you have to have ocean front property, but the closer to shore you are the less the humidity is. If you go 10 miles inland the humidity is horrible.
