Help on vintage Rolex Cellini
Hi everyone! My dad saw my Explorer II for the first time a while and he liked it a lot. He wants to get one too. I offered to give mine to him but he refused and said he'd prefer to see us both wearing the same watch.
But first he wants to get rid of one or two of his Rolexes, so he asked me to sell this vintage Rolex Cellini that he bought more than 25 years ago (he figures around 1979-1980). He wore it for about a year or two back in the 80's and then just stored it in his drawer wrapped in a handkerchief. So it hasn't been used for around 20 years already. We checked if it still worked, and as it is a Rolex... it's in fine working condition even after two decades of non-use. Problem is, I don't know its value now to start with. So if any of you guys are familiar with this model, maybe you can help me put a price tag on it. I'll probably sell it on Ebay, maybe even here on the TRF, or some second hand watch dealer here. The watch has no box or papers. It's authentic as my dad personally bought it from the store. Please see the pictures for more details. Thanks. |

Nice watch, first time I actually see one of them, heard about them though.
A lot of wear it seems for 2 years of use? I would not use it anymore before having it cleaned, you could damage the movement. Someone here will be by very soon to give you an estimate |

Have you looked at completed sales on ebay? Seems there are some around the 1800-2000 dollar mark.

Yup, does seem to have a lot of scratches, especially on the bezel, backcase, and crystal (especially on the pictures). In actuality, doesn't really look that banged up. I was surprised to see a lot of scratches after I took some pictures of it. The crystal scratches looks pretty weird. It doesn't really look like scratches at all, more like tree roots creeping around the edges. The center of the crystal has no scratches even. I don't know, maybe they're glass surface cracks or something. Here's another picture...

It's always like that when taking pictures, there are ways to avoid it, they show more then you would see with the naked eye.
For Ebay completed listings, you have to login with your account, then goto 'advanced search' at the upper right and highlight 'completed listings only' and so a normal search. Good luck |

next to the "search" button is text that reads "advanced search"
click that, then enter the search term "rolex cellini" and check the box "completed listings only" |
