Rolex GMT IIC Bezel Insert fell off!

i am an inspector for boeing and i have my arms stuck back into structural nooks and crannys everyday. an anodized aluminum bezel insert doesn't stand a chance against titanium fittings and stainless steel clamps, brackets and the like. i guess it would be ok if you don't mind wearing it around with the anodize scratched off of it but my ceramic still looks new after 2 years. it's a far better product for my environment.

Just to add to the knowledge base, it happened to me too. Insert fell out after 5 months of ownership. Rolex won't cover it under warranty. "They generally won't cover things outside the case due to possible abuse". I was getting off a train. Never knew that was considered abuse.

Aluminium insert may be more springy, as it is softer than ceramic; so that it helds more firmly in place..

No insert issue with the sub for the moment... But keep in mind that this issue is EXCEPTIONAL.

The best part of 2 years elapsed when the 3rd report was posted. Whilst it is an issue and the unlucky owners must me mad, it is not an issue that has raised it's head for 2 years...on here, at least.

and why wouldn't Rolex cover this under warranty?

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune, and hopeyou get this issue sorted out soon. Did you speak with someone directly at Rolex or did you speak with your AD?

How can Rolex say, with a straight face, that hey will not cover anythign outside the watch as it may be due to "possible abuse???"

If there were actual evidence of abuse AND the evidence coincided with the problem, they may have an argument but otherwise I think it shows poor form.

I agree...just looking at the guys pics, his GMT looks to be in good shape...not even a scratch on the side of the watch!

mine is still fine and is going on 4 years old now. it's still being banged into aircraft parts everyday, it has plenty of scratches to show for it everywhere except the crystal and bezel insert.......... they still look new and nothing about the watch has encountered any problems.....

can't believe that this has happened a few times now. Out of curiosity what is the serial prefix of your watch. If it was an early model there were a few problems with it including the bracelet.

This was my AD. I purchased it in Hyde Park Jewelers in Denver. They are sending it into Rolex for repair with an "at least 4 weeks" turn around. Now I'm having use my phone to tell time like a schlub.

To be fair, my AD added a note asking Rolex to cover it but she didn't sound too confident. I also asked her twice what it would cost and her only response was "minimal".

My AD couldn't fix it so they sent it into Rolex. No abuse, dings, or wear. Clean case and glass. Even the detached insert was perfectly smooth and round. No real explanation on why it won't be covered but when pressed my AD alluded the warranty only covers the movement. I was too gobsmacked to say anything else.
