Not sure you can beat a base Luminor Panerai.

Mik, I know the history actually starts with the Rad case design. But in my head nothing says Panerai like the crown guard. It just seems more rugged, more tool watch to me. That's a personal taste thing. I can admire some beautiful dress watches (always had a Vacheron crush), but something about the Luminor design just sings to me.

I'm guessing that a lot of votes that would go to Rads actually just end up going to dressier brands, you know what I mean? Like Rads fit a small niche of people who love the Panerai history but like the dressier Rad while people who just really like elegant dressy watches go for something smaller, more "gentlemanly."

Just my guesses. I could be way off. :-)

Yeah, I'm a cushion case junky. You mentioned a brand that is in my grail list.....of course it is a cushion case.

I love Luminors as well. Pondering a zero, but would be super excited if they release a SS 360. I don't need the patina (but it would be nice), just love the dial layout. Don't even get me started on the 4 liner MM dial, but that is an impossible strech for me. Might as well get a 201a.

Needless to say, I might switch over to Luminor if I can pull off that 372. It might be possible, those lugs look smaller and it is definately thinner (not including the plexi).

No surprise, really. We all know that Rads are the original Panerai design but as mentioned above, in today's world, when one thinks of Panerai, one thinks of the crown guard and that means Luminors.

Regardless of which design or model you have or prefer, they are all fabulous watches.........never has a watch sang to me like a Panerai. I've actually sold all my Rolex collection as a result.

Enjoy!!!!!
