First Rolex 14060m or 16610
So I have decided its time to buy my sub. I have been going back and forth and have finally landed on buying a 16610 since having the date is a plus for me. The only question I have is can you still find a New In Box 16610? I really want to buy a new sub. Do you think I should wait until I find a 16610 with stickers, or is this impossible and I should go for for a new 14060m?.

The 16610 has more utility (date and magnifier), so that is what I would choose. You can always get a no-date later, or even better, the 16600 Sea-Dweller. I don't care about stickers as long as the watch is in good condition.

Find a BNIB 16610 is getting tough. There are some near mint ones out there.
Good luck.

Maybe tough to find a new one, but I know if it were my first Rolex I would want the Cyclops.
However which ever one you chose you can't go wrong. Good luck. Have you contacted any ADs in your area? You might want to try a seller here and see what they can do to assist you?

Get a 16610. My first was a 14060, but ended up getting a 16610 later. Now, I have both.

The date is helpful, for sure.
But, seriously, at this level of watch, having the date is the absolute least important factor for me. It's ALL about looks ( i.e. symmetry), heritage, and originality. The Sub NO DATE wins for me on all those counts. I think it's a cooler watch.... |

I would get the Sub date. My first nice watch was an Omega Speedmaster. I thought I could live without a date. But I was wrong, so I end up getting a SD. But right now I'm missing my Speedy. So there is a chance you might end up with both....

Not limited to exactly the two models in mind, I guess that you are in your way to acquire both in good time. In such case, I would recommend 14060 to be followed by 16710. The combination of the submariner no date, and the GMT (black or pepsi) is indeed superb. Which one first?.....your call. Enjoy in good health.

First Rolex 14060M or 16610
Having had Subs with dates I found the date to be a "no big item for me". What I did find is a nearly nearly new 14060M COSC non-date. This was a short run production model, less than a year. It was so like new it still had all the protective plastic that only Rolex can put on at the factory. The warranty card identified the AD and the purchaser in LA.

BTW, you might also consider the wonderful Sea Dweller; date but no cyclops; really cool if you like a bit more heft to your watch.... |

If it is a watch youre planning wear, dont get too caught up in the whole stickered and mint thing. Two weeks of wear that it will be a used watch like any other good 16610 on the market. You could save a lot by doing so.
Personally, the date is a non-dealbreaker for me so my heart is with the 14060m... |

Get the Sub Date.....that's what you want. I believe you can still find a BNIB. Good luck.

Sub date as it has the date function which comes in handy at work.
Either way you can't go wrong.... Like one of the forum members noted in another thread, Subs are like "honey beavers" in the watch world.
