Woman's vs Men's Rolex used value
I know there are a b'zillion threads on Rolex value on the used market so I hope this one is a bit different. In looking at the 4-sale watches I see that men's outnumber women's 20 to 1 if not more. Should I assume there are more men's watches sold new than women's and if so, do the women's command more money on the used market, relevant and proportional to new cost that is.
In the process of buying a new woman's Datejust TT with jubilee bracelet diamond dial and diamond bezel. Thanks H |

I think wonen's tend to go for less. I think they are harder to sell even though you do not see as many on the used market they still compand less money.
You should be able to get a deal on one. Just my two cents.

Women's will bring less money in the secondary market than men's because of lower demand.
Pair that with the definite depreciation of (1) TT and (2) diamonds relative to new pricing, and you have a fairly unexciting resale value. Not to say don't buy new (although many would say so), but go into it realistically. |

I actually thought that More women keep their watches longer so that is why there are less of them on the used market. I wonder what the production ratio is for men vs women? |

Ladies watches across the board: Rolex,Patek---etc go for less. Think about the nature of women they do not like "used" items.

I would agree with buying preowned if your wife or girlfriend is ok with it. You will save a ton and the ladies models do take a huge hit when new. Problem is my wife doesn't like anything used. Hope you are in a different situation. :-)

I've never bought a used piece of jewelry so I'm not sure how she would react. I would think if it's in a nice box and looks new that it may not matter but just now over dinner she said she likes two tone watches now since she already has a few all gold ones so it looks like a new Datejust it is. I think she will like the Datejust TT 31mm with smooth diamond bezel and white or mop diamond dial. Believe me that her latest car was easier to decide on than this silly watch!

I completely disagree! However, none of the used Rolexes I've purchased have been strictly women's models. At my gray dealer, there are lots of 26mm Datejusts in the case. Dealer says sales of Lady DJ are very slow. |

She'd rather take a new 1000 euro Omega than a Used ladies 18K date just with diamonds.

My wife differs from some of yours dramatically. She is a professional shopper, to be sure, but she lives by the adage that "a woman will buy a $20 item she doesn't need if it is on sale for $10." The deal is as important to her as the item. So, not only did she want a "grey" dealer Rolex, but she was not at all phased by getting one without B&P. As with most ladies' watches that are all quartz and stamped with some name brand, be it Ann Taylor, Citizen, or what have you, they are all based on imitations of the standard Lady DJ, except the parts are non-automatic and sub-standard, with faux gold, etc. This is the watch she'd be wearing, in one incarnation or another, since college. So, a few years ago I finally got fed up and told her if she was going to wear nice shoes and purses and jewelry, she owed it to herself to get a nice watch. Now, rather than re-buying a watch every 2-3 yrs, she has one that is permanent and never need be replaced. She doesn't give 2 figs about B&P because she never intends to resale. So, contrary to what others may have experienced, my wife considers the used TT DJ, no B/P, from 1999 that I bought her about 4 years ago to still be the unqualified best most thoughtful gift I ever gave her. (And no, I didn't behave niggardly with other gifts over the years -- it's just that this one seemed the most personal and thoughtful and best and most useful to her.) |

I just had a big discussion with my jewler about this topic. Women watches in almost all cases have very poor resell value. The biggest contributing factor is that women dont tend to buy and sell their watch as frequent as men. Women tend to wear 1 or 2 watches thru out long periods of time. So less buying used watch demands.

More women are choosing men's watches too, so that must have an impact. Besides, you get more metal for your money with a man's watch!
