Warranty Question after spending 2+ hours reading threads; and I've only just joined!
I was at work like any other Friday and during lunch made the poor decision to take a quick peak at this forum.
After all I've been a member less than 10 days, what harm could it do? Half a dozen threads and two hours later I still can't leave... But what an knowledgeable and informing 2+ hours it has been! Just wondering, after reading a thread about warranties and the mishaps of it. 1.)Doesn't Rolex offer a 2-year no-questions-asked warranty? 2.)I purchased my watch from a "gray" dealer in HK; in the event that something did happen to my baby, I should just contact the USA Rolex-Service-Center and they should take care of me? Thanks! |

You'll get answers all over the board with this one. Simple answer would be NO on gray market purchases of any kind.
I have found and confirmed that if the watch was purchased from an Authorized Dealer, and the warranty was filled out by the Authorized Dealer, that if you purchase it from the original owner then the Dallas RSC will service the watch. I have heard the NY won't. The official Rolex policy is all of the place with this one! |

1. No, there is no such thing as a "no questions asked" warranty.
Here is exactly what it says: 2. Rolex USA will service any authentic Rolex watch.. They may not honor the warranty if purchased outside their Distribution area, such as an imported Grey Market watch..

From my (limited) understanding, for warranty work, you will need a filled warranty card AND proof of purchase (e.g. receipt). So, if you got it at a grey dealer, then Rolex will NOT fix under warranty (aka free). BUT, they will fix your watch for a fee...same fee as what they would charge a Rolex that is out of warranty.
HOWEVER, since grey market (or trustworthy broker) usually offers amazing discounts over what you can get at the AD, it is worth it! Why? I recently had my YachtMaster (bought at AD) serviced at 5 years...it came out $820 ($700 + $120 for new sapphire crystal). So, lets say, in your WORST CASE SCENARIO, your new Rolex from Grey dealer stops working as soon as you put it on your wrist. Well, just send it in...and pay $700 (or less) for Rolex to fix it. (Remember, $700 is for a FULL SERVICE...not to fix a small problem, which should cost less.) Now, how much did you save by going with the Grey Dealer? I am sure (or hope) that it was much more than $700. Let's say that you save over $1700 (as i did with my recent TOG purchase)...minus $700 for Rolex to fix your watch (worst case scenario!)...in the end you still made $1000 in profit over buying from AD!!!! Is it worth it to get a new Rolex from a trusted broker or grey market? Hell yeah!! I would do the same over again. (And yes, my TOG is my FIRST Rolex purchase from a non-AD broker.) |

I recently purchased a new with tags 2010 Tudor Glamour Date Day from a reputable grey dealer with the "remaining time on the two year warranty through Rolex until 2012". I noticed a fine piece of lint under the dial much to my dismay. Sent it to Rolex NYC earlier this month - Rolex informed me the warranty was void because I did not purchase new from an authorized Rolex (Tudor) dealer. On the bright side Rolex repaired my watch "compliments of Rolex" with no warranty on the work performed and sent me a nice Rolex travel case and polishing cloth. I am very pleased with the watch, with the grey dealer, and very thrilled with Rolex complimentary service. Values of purchasing from an AD, even though my grey dealer was very professional and I would gladly deal with him again. Just know that the Rolex warranty has to be from an AD.
