No thread is worth losing a valued and respected member of TRF!

By all means, end this thread!

As long as we can still throw sheep jokes at you, JJ!

No worries, my friend. Hurl all the sheep jokes you can my way, but I will not stand by and watch a good friend of mine quit due to some antagonistic remarks against his beloved home and country.

Where are you from? You sure know the dutch cuisine.
Every time I left for Argentina had to bring a suitcase full of these things for a dutch friend, especially peanut sauce.
I expect this thread will be locked soon so I will start a new thread entitled "Dutch Cuisine" and respond there.

If AJ or others took this post too seriously from the start (which if you read the post was meant to be humorous, the way friends joke around and the way myself and all the Aussies, Kiwis, Scots, etc joke around and are always ragging on each other) or some post in this forum by others about Concentration Camps by the English (which is a true story), then please never go to the Jokes forum, and especially now read the joke about Black People posted by a moderator. Got to have thick skin on this forum, especially in the open forums or joke forum, But one thing I have really liked about TRF is how there has always been good freindship on this forum without it ever getting nasty and people to start defaming or calling others names and conflicts on the forum do tend to be settled peacefully. If my thread offended others, I apologize, even if there is some truth in my humor! Sometimes post are created to get good discussion going, such as this one sure did and changed topics many times! Learned a lot of history myself on this thread!

Sundarban (?) region in India I believe, saw a documentary on how many people are eaten every month once they get a taste of us, watch out you do not end up on a plate yourself

Back in the mid 90s there were several Tigers in Cambodia that got the taste of human flesh, after feeding on a pile of civilians killed by the Khmer Rouge (that was still active until 1998). After getting that taste, they hunted and killed around 50 Cambodian Forest Workers over several months. The Tigers were eventually hunted and killed.

Mmmm. If Michelin is the yardstick, count the number of two and three star restaurants. Alas, my beloved Parkheuvel lost it's 3 stars as soon as Mr. Helder stepped back. Don't toil with me, I know food

Goodwatch,

Did you ever see any Indonesian influence in Dutch cooking or Dutch influence in INdonesian cooking? Thought you would know since your Beautiful wife is from Indonesia! So does your wife cook you Indonesian or Dutch food or have that fusion thing going on?

Both in language as in cuisine there’s a distinctive influence. From what I’ve seen in Indonesia there’s little Dutch influence food wise. White bread, heavily modified, is all I can think of. For non-Dutch it is almost impossible to fathom the cultural influence Indonesia has had on Dutch society. I have the best of both worlds. My wife, although from Indonesian descent, is a master in preparing traditional Dutch food (‘stampot’) as well as traditional Indonesian dishes. It is the art of making something from nothing that I like best. Anne is not from Indonesia, she’s born in my country.

Here here JJ. There are some opinions which are based hatred and lack of understanding that have no place in any public arena..come to think of it, any arena. there are some things that are fundementally wrong and can never be excused. it's why I chimed in with my comments as that is what was being intimated or certainly felt that way.

There is no place, even in humour for rascism or comments that are negative to another race or culture. ignorance in any form is not to be tolarated IMHO

Hold on a minute here, guys. We've had enough damage done here today. The world can be a harsh place and certain violent threats need to be dealt with with greater violence to truly achieve peace, albeit through fear, but peace nonetheless.

So, let's not go damning the "rambo types" or anyone, for that matter, just yet. Let's just take a little time to cool off, collect our thoughts and recall how much we may have just lost before we go saying anything else that's going to create more animosities.

Ian, get a grip. There was not one thing in any of my posts that were rascist or against someone due to their ethnicity. And I never once mentioned anything deragatory about anyone's culture. Coming out and accusing someone of being a racsist is pretty strong.

Now as for cultures, well some "cultures" are wrong, just as rascism is wrong. There is right and wrong in this world. I don't think there are too many who would disagree with me that the Nazi Culture was wrong, for example. Or the Taliban, or the Culture of Pedeophiles (yeah, I do not believe all "Sexual Orientations" are acceptable or ascribe to the Pedeoophile's notion that they are born that way and can not control their actions)

Unfortunately we live in a society where many do not want to hear the truth and want to jump on the Politically Correct bandwagon. It is all about "tolerance" until you have a belief, conviction, or the facts/truth of a matter that is not within in the "Politically Correct Liberal Camp".

If you want to post about comments or humor that implies rascism on this forum, then go check out the Jokes forum. Post some comments there of your concerns.

If someone gets offended cause I made a comment about how we kicked their ass 220 years ago (one of the reasons the USA enjoys so many Freedoms for it's citizens that are not allowed in other parts of the world), then just chill out. I personally was not offended as well when a good Mexican Buddy of mine, joked with me once about how they kicked our Ass at the Alamo almost 200 years ago. The past is the past.

I firmly believe People should be judged according to their actions not the color of thier skin, but too many times when someone is judged for doing something wrong, and he happens to be from a ethnic minority, the rascism card comes out. It is actions that are wrong, not race. I believe all people, regardless of skin color, should be treated equally and that Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, and Rigth to Bear Arms are three fundemental freedoms that all people should have. Unfortunately in many places of this world, those freedoms are oppressed.

Chad, your argument about going to the jokes forum for comparison doesn't cut it with me. It's just another way of saying, "But teacher, he did it too", and that dog just don't hunt round these here parts.

You know me and you know my style. I don't have time for limp dicks and I'll say as much. Knowing that, I hope you'll understand where I'm coming from when I say that it's a little bit of give and take here. I agree that to some extent this place operates in friendship and some thick skin is needed, but the give that goes with that take is that when someone says, "Wait a minute, that's not funny", you treat the other guy's opinion with respect. Adrian's been a damned good member here and in other forums for the years that I've known him, and when he says something's wrong, he's not the sort to hit the panic button for no good reason. Maybe you don't know him all that well, but I'm saying that when he gets his back up, it's something to be taken seriously.

What I'm reading from the thread above is you saying, "Hey, it was just a joke, man - lighten up!", when the more appropriate response would be, "Sorry man, I didn't mean to offend". It's your call, but maybe you wanna consider giving just a bit more respect to other folks round here.

That said, there's a lot of bad vibes going round this forum right now with folks on both sides of the argument tarring everyone with the same brush. We're all grown-ups here, so let's just dial things back a bit and let the dust settle.
