I wish all AD's were like this.......

As posted yesterday, I mentioned that I purchased a GMT-IIc from a local TRF'r.. I received it yesterday (beautiful) and today brought it in my a local AD here in Edmonton to check out. (Swedish Jewellers).

I actually took the watch to SJ to have a water resistance check done on it.. Any used watch, I usually do this as I want to make sure if I hop in the pool I'm not going to destroy my watch

Today I decided to take it to SJ instead of my regular watchmaker as they are a Rolex AD and have a certified Rolex watchmaker on staff. It should be noted that I've only every purchased 1 watch from this dealer (2 years ago) and it was a Hamilton.

When I approached I asked the very friendly staff how much it would cost to have a watch waterproof tested and they responded $80. They said it would take about 30-45 mins. I agreed, took off my GMT and they look at it puzzled and asked how long I had it. I responded "24hrs". He then asked "why are you testing it?" I responded "It was pre-owned and I want to just make sure as to not flood the watch when I hop in the pool". He said np, come back in an hr..

An hour later I showed up and he said "Your watch sir was purchased 3 years ago from an AD in New York. It is absolutely in amazing condition and you really lucked out with this beautiful piece as even we are having a hard time getting them to sell right now".

I was surprised they went through the extra effort to find out the history of the watch, but, further to that, when I went to pull out my credit card I was told "Don't worry, it's on us, you have a beautiful watch".

I've been in SJ quite a few times and every time has been an excellent experience. They are NEVER pushy and always extremely knowledgable. I then mentioned to them that this was my first Rolex, but, when I'm ready to buy another one new, this is the place I'm purchasing it from.

All AD's take note.. THIS IS HOW YOU EARN LIFELONG CUSTOMERS!

I know SJ has a great reputation in this city.. They could have easily just made a quick $80 off of an unknown from off the street, but, no, they were smart in making a tiny investment in a potential long term customer.

I wish all AD's were this fantastic!

Nice.
Now in the future would you consider looking/buying a Rolex there?

Yeah hands down. They have earned a customer for life. This will be the place I go to for any AD purchase or wife jewellery purchase just based on this simple gesture.

They are all WIN in my books!

Extremely nice AD. I really wish more ADs were like this and if they were they would build up a much bigger customer base!

This is a tough call for me personally. Of course, I appreciate the efforts they made and it's wonderful to have experiences like that; however, if I had to PAY for that experience, I'd pass. Meaning, if I can get the same watch for $500 less I'd go gray, $50 less I'd probably go to the AD - somewhere between $50 and $500 is the price I'm willing to pay for that experience.

It is nice to hear of places like this - I have one like this in Bath, Maine and another in St. Thomas, USVI.

I would think they did a back ground check to make sure it wasn't reported stolen. I just bought this watch from a guy, will you check it out, will raise a flag. SOP check the serial number with Rolex. A very thorough and professional AD, everybody is happy.

Great customer service is always nice to hear. I wish there were more AD's like that. However, if I was in that same situation I gotta be honest. I can't promise to do all my future purchases there if the price difference is very significant (ex. in the order of at least several hundred $) when comparing that AD's prices vs. other sources.

SJ does get good press. Their name always comes up when anyone is looking for a watch in Edmonton or surrounding area.

The other local Edmonton dealer does not receive anywhere near the amount of praise.

Great story.
It seems that today people have no idea of the true $$ value of "good will". Nice to hear about an AD who looks past today.

In my city we have two Rolex AD's. A few years ago I spent $14k on two watches in one week with AD #1 who then told me I wasn't a good customer because I'd never bought any stones/diamonds from him and I was too knowledgeable about watch pricing and discounts.

AD #2 put my name on the list for the green sub before he'd even heard of it and called me several months later when one came in to purchase.

Care to guess which AD I shop at and which AD I buy from?
Or which one I just ordered a new 116528 PN from two days ago?

Good or bad; attitude means alot!
Best,
Mike

When did AD #1 say you were not a good customer?

We have some really great Jewellry stores and watch boutiques in the UK. Why by from some bloke off the street only to find he's gone within a year or two selling the latest shampoo to someone else.

A few months after I had already dropped $14k in his store and asked for a discount on the next purchase. Needless to say there was not a third purchase!

Good to hear you were happy with the service at Swedish.....and I have to say, I'm not surprised~!!~
Having known the AD for many years now, it's always a treat to stop in and say hi from time to time!

Just a heads up however, and not to put a downer on the story, SJ always refers to the Rolex data base before issuing any work orders for an incoming watch if not sold directly by themselves!
It's smart business to do so..
