Vendor paradox at the
So today, the mrs told me she wanted to go to the antique show in West Palm Beach Fl. I figured, what the heck, I'll see some watches.
Well, one lady showed me a turn o graph and said, it is in great shape and I must have 5300.00 for it. When she handed it to me, it felt very light on the jubilee. I looked it over and saw many scratches that looked like plating wearing off. I almost said, lady, that is a Folex! But, I quietly walked away. That said, earlier, I came across a beautiful woman's ring, 18 KT WG with 18 small princes cut invisible set diamonds on the top with some round diamond going partially down the sides of the ring. About 1 CT total weight marked 1200.00. I showed my wife and told her I thought it was beautiful and she should buy it. I then asked the booth owner how much, he said 600.00. I said sold and broke out a credit card. He said, I don't take credit cards, can you give me a check. Well, we don't carry checks. they said there was an ATM but we did not want to do a cash advance on the credit card. We asked if he was local and told him the town we live in. Before it went any further he said, take the ring now and send me a check. I was flabbergasted that in this world, someone would be so trusting. I told him who I work for and have mr drivers license and other ID I can show him and sign a paper stating we owe him for the piece. He said, no need. You have to start trusting people sometime. We took the ring and he did not even know our names. Needless to say, I am in shock. And , we have already written a check to go out in Tuesday's mail which includes a thank you note. So here you have one vendor selling a Rolex that is very possibly not the real thing and another vendor that is selling something of value albeit at a very fair price and is a trusting individual with a heart of gold. He really has trust in humanity. I thank him for his trust and will have him paid in a jiffy as promised. I keep thinking, am I going to be ona TV show kind of like the one were the people get caught cheating on each other? LOL. Sorry, i am not a great photographer and could not capture and fire from these diamonds. Have a great holiday all.

Authenticate first before paying.
Trust but verify.
A good story about trust and trusting. However, I would at least have the ring checked out for authenticity by a qualified jeweler before mailing off the check. $600. is a quite a bit of change. You have his address/contact info (I assume) and can return or meet with him should the ring turns out it came from a box of cracker jack. My 2c. |

Congrats Lee.
You must give people the impression that you're a very trustworthy person. I have to wonder if I would have been so fortunate. |
