What would do to not pay sales tax??

Hello Everyone,

as some of you may already know, the last day or so i have been busy selling two of my watches for the deal of a lifetime. I will not say what i am going to get, but i will post pictures as soon as i get it!

my question is, would you want to pay the sales tax if you could take the watch home that day, or ship it to family about 2 hours away.

Here is the thing. it is about $650 in tax. however, that will justify it not getting lost and making sure i get every last thing that comes with the watch such as bezel protector, and every last little piece of plastic.

also, it would cost me $125 to ship it fully insured. and considering the gas my Audi uses, there would be about $75 there. So here is where i stand. it would cost $450 to be sure i would get everything and not have to wait a week and risk something happening to it, as well as not having to drive 4 hours late at night. What would you do?

I am really not sure what would be best?

Well technically if you ship the product out of state you still would need to report the purchase on your end of year income tax returns and pay the tax then... Of course no one does this but this is an issue I personally would not discuss in an open forum and do whatever is best for you and your situation

Yeah technically but I am certain no one or very few do... Just depends on how you feel, congrats on the new watch and I am looking forward to seeing the "reveal"

im leaning on the side that $450 is a price to pay for:

assurance that nothing will happen
not have to put 350 miles on my 5 month old Audi
won't have to take 4 hours of a drive
won't have to pay $75 for the trip
won't have to pay $125 to ship
no worries that it will get lost!!!

ahh, the joys of living 1 hour from Delaware ;-) (no sales tax and you can buy to your heart's content in Christiana/Newark/Wilmington). Works great for golf clubs, clothes and - soon - my first Rolex as well. The State of Maryland is too smart though to let you get away with that on cars however - hence the 6% excise tax.

I agree. Pay the sales tax support your state.

You to the AD if you didn't, "Hi my name is Joe Smith...I bought this purty Rolex here from you folks, but I had to send it to Texas so as not to pay the sales tax but I really live here in Ohio.....now.......

I paid more in sales tax on my purchases, a lot more.....so I guess I am dumber than a lot of people here. It's kinda like a fake Rolex or a real one, even if you have a REALLY good fake.......you still know it's a fake. There is some element of satisfaction from the real thing. If you can afford it pay the tax and take the watch home the regular way that's not a bad thing IMHO.

Just remember wherever you go---you will always be there

It sounds like you would prefer to pick it up rather than deal with any uncertainty of
shipping it.

Gentleman....Gentleman (and ladies) just remember, they're is always someone or somewhere who has it worse ! Come to Canada especially Ontario where our Provincial government has been kind enough to give us a 13% Goods and Services tax. Yeah yeah I know our roads are ok and we have health care, blah blah blah, but I hate outrageous taxes as well, and would rather pay less and have more choice with my money ! Let me decide where i spend my money and on what !

I would absolutely pay the $450 to avoid a 4 hour drive!
I also try to avoid tax fraud. That headache would cost 10x as much, or more.
