What Is "Generation Y" ?

Hmmmmmmmm.............. Generation “Y”

I 've always wondered this myself... and now I know !!

People born before 1946 were called The Silent Generation..

The Baby Boomers are those born between 1947 and 1965.

Generation X people have been born between 1966 and 1979.

Generation Y were born between 1980 and 2010

Why do we call the last group Generation Y ?
I always thought it was because they say....
Y should I get a job ?
Y should I leave home and find my own place ?
Y should I get a car when I can borrow yours ?
Y should I clean my room ?
Y should I wash and iron my own clothes ?
Y should I buy any food ?

A cartoonist explained it very eloquently below....

Basically, generation Y are born in the mid-1980's. Therefore, Gen Y are legal professionals who are in their 20's and are just entering the workforce. They are also considered as anti-consumer. I believe that one of the reason why they are considered as the "generation of anti-consumers" because Generation Y are pessimistic about financial future. Yes, you read it right! Economic recession played a huge factor for this. According to a recent survey, most of those who came into adulthood during the Great Recession are already worrying too much about retirement, and so they are not confident that they will have money in the near future. That is why, albeit this generation are tech-savvy, they are still tight with regard to budget.

Cool! I've just slipped into Gen-X as a '78 model so I can shake my fist at these "damn kids" with the best of them!

BTW, point of clarification. Gen Y is not the most recent generation. I think sometime around y2k begins the "millenials."

I am a early Gen Y born 1985, and I can tell you I dont have those problems. I work and live a pretty conservative lifestyle. I have a average home average cars and two really nice watches. Every generation has its problems, even the baby Boomers have theirs. Most are from the Hippie generation and are considered big spenders and debt accumulation went out of control under there watch. Once the gen Y get out of college they smarten up believe me.
