I had a milestone birthday on the 4th of this month. I decided that I wanted a Daytona to mark the occasion. I gave a little bit of thought to getting a Grade 1 Swiss Replica......but I never have seen one and probably would not be happy with one for so many reasons. I am glad that I have the backing of my AD and Rolex USA on my watch, even though I know it will be expensive to get service in the future. It all boils down to peace of mind with an expensive toy. Like the credit card people say........PRICELESS. Comments?

I am one of those on the board who also likes to purchase my watches at an AD. The peace of mind is worth every penny.

As with aany work of art, provenance is very important, and IMO adds value to the watch. If you were buying an after-market Rolex, who would you be most comfortable with?

1) The seller who says "Well, I bought it from a guy who needed the money and was willing to let it go for cheap. Can't remember his name"

2) The seller who says "I bought this watch at Tourneau two years ago. Here are the box and papers, as well as the bill of sale."

One of the few exceptions to this would be JJ. OF COURSE! I THINK ANY OF US WOULD BE HAPPY TO BUY A WATCH FROM THAT TOSSER!!!!

Likewise, I recently purchased my first Rolex for a milestone b-day and it was very tempting to buy from ebay or one of the a/m vendors but after much agonizing over it I went with an AD also. Peace of mind is a great thing and I have no regrets.

Congratulations on purchasing an authentic Rolex vs a copy. It is good that you are happy with your experience through an AD. I recently purchased from a reputable non-AD jeweler. The watches that I ordered were perfect and authentic. Perhaps there is a little less peace of mind but I can put a price on the savings.

I agree. I got a nice discount and didn't pay sales tax. So it was a good financial deal too.

I agree. Add to things, I am still new at this, and needed the security of not getting nailed by Folex, S.A. of wherever. It was all about the peace of mind (got a nice warranty in addition to factory, too!). Congrats on both occasions! May they be savored for years to come.

It's all in the "smell", guys....all in that "new smell" which you can ONLY get from an AD.

The experience one gets of buying a brand new Rolex from an AD is totally different....so exhilirating, so overwhelming and so totally satisfying.

Want a Rolex? Go to an AD!!! The ONLY way to buy a Rolex!!

There are a lot of replicas out there, that is for sure.

But there is nothing like the real thing.

Good choice in not buying a fake.

the feeling I got from purchasing a BNIB Rolex from an AD was icing on the cake. I wish I could buy them all this way... but..

That said, I also am a diehard bargain hunter and I also feel great when I spot terrific deals after hunting and hunting for months and going serveral times to the same 10s of 20s of stores here, besides checking their inventories first online. That's all part of the Rolex Hobby and experience, for me. It takes time and I am willing to wait until I finally spot something that I know to be a good deal--and then I jump on it.

So I go both ways, as I also appreciate the savings too and the fun of looking around.
