The Sea-Dweller still reigns, well almost.
I just checked out the new edition of International Watch magazine which had a special feature on approximately 50 dive watches including the SD. Out of all the watches, that ranged in price from around $300 to $210,000, only one exceeded the SD's depth rating.
There were several that had a rating of 1000 meters but none exceeded that except a Bell & Ross that was oil filled and had a depth rating of 11,100 meters! And some say the SD's 1220m is overkill. I'm sure there are some others out there that have deeper depth rating but the old SD is holding its own. |

Plus it's better-looking than most other divers, as well!

The Rolex "Submariner" booklet that goes with the Sub, but ALSO comes with the SD says:
"The Submariner is a handsome watch for social and business wear, yet stays, first and foremost, a diver's watch". This is very true! Both the Sub (OP and Date) AND the SD are IMHO the most beautifull diver's watches out there. We are talking ELEGANCE combines with QUALITY and FUNCTION!

Yep! The're my favs, too! Understated, but classy and go with just about anything, incl. t-shirts and shorts. Our friend, Nick, has great taste, but I believe I'd throw on a tux with a SD or Sub, too. Awesome photo BTW, Mike!

But how come if the SD is so great, we don't get our very own Flash screen saver?
The Sub gets a movie and a screen saver. We get a couple of photos on the website and that's about it. Plus a nod in the Submariner booklet. Great photos, Frostie.

YOU ARE ALL MISTAKEN.
The SEA Dweller is actually much more than a sturdy dive watch. It is a Travel Watch. The SEA actually stands for SouthEast Asia. Was made for travel between dives in SouthEast Asia exploring caves, volcanoes, and jungles!! (Just like the GMT actually stands for "Global Mobile Travel") |

Well whatever watch the Sea Dweller may be, whether its a dive watch or much more than that like a travel watch, its still gets my award for being the TOUGHEST watch ever created. If not, definitely the toughest Rolex watch and thats pretty damn tough!

well the magazine was certainly not comprehensive ....as there are now many watches that exceed the wr rating for the SD..........
nonetheless the SD is what it is, a legend....

Maybe the SD doesn't need all that fancy marketing. It is a no nonsense, no frills watch that sells itself.

Lets face it , all other watch manufactures when they produce a divers watch use the
Sea Dweller as a starting point for design , some copy it (adding colors etc) and use parts of its design . Its hard to improve on its functionality as a dive watch , unless you go and use quartz and produce a Dive Computer . Long live the Sea Dweller!!!!! |
