New addition: Twenty years old. Never used. Until now!

Just recently a box came to me:

There are a couple of watches that I "should have bought", but never did for various good reasons (money being one of them, other priorities another). Here is a watch that I have been looking for for a long time. It is nothing spectacular. It is not considered vintage. It do not have the proper size of today. It was one of the least expensive models. There is not much bling. The bracelet is not solid, nor heavy. The lume is long gone (if it ever where good at all). There is hardly any colour at all ... but I like it!

I am still amazed that I was cool enough to snap a picture before opening the box, but eventually I did:

The serial number indicates that the watch was produced in 1991. It was sold in Switzerland in 1992, and for some reason it was never used. The feeling of the bracelet is absolutely NOS, the case is as sharp as they only are when they are just out of the store. Just look at this:

What I really like (in addition to being able to pick up a NOS watch) is the dial. The early 16XX0 Datejusts had very plain dials without the current roman minute/seconds track outside the stick markers. This one has only the minute marks. As simple as that:

A most welcome addition for me. Spectacular in its simplicity, IMHO:

Best,

A

I spend a lot of time (too much perhaps) searching the web and talking to people I have come to learn on various forums...

... also, in this case a very friendly and professional dealer helped me. A positive experience, I must say.

Why unused? A gift to someone that already had something nicer, perhaps, and now decided to trade it. Or perhaps someone inherited it unused, and traded it toward something more wanted. I've seen it happen several times earlier.

BTW: I missed out on a deal earlier this year on thirty year old NOS Tudor...

Best,

A

Wow. I'm new to Rolex, but that watch is everything that attracted me to the brand. Well done.

Great watch and yes you can find NOS watches around, but I quite amazed know-one has yet said it will need a service. As the many posts on TRF worried about a watch thats been at a AD for a year or so many say it will need a service. But if any watch has been unused its not a problem to store for many years.I know from experience bought several old NOS Tudors around 2000 that had been sat in there boxes unused for 30 odd years. They all ran fine and are still running fine today good luck with your watch for many many more years to come.
