Icon5 Need Some Advice With a Datejust II

Hi everyone,

I'm new here to TRF and I need some advice. I have just become the lucky owner of a shiny new Datejust II. Its my first Rolex and I'm proud of owning one. Anyways onto to my issue. The problem I have is that I do lots of work with my hands (i.e. sort of blue collar but nothing heavy duty like construction of plumbing) and I seem to have chipped/nicked the sapphire crystal of my datejust II The chip/nick is right above the eleventh minute or the space after the I. Aside from this I have minor scratches over the gold parts of the band. Sorry about the description (I'm trying to take the right picture) but I'll describe my watch in detail. It is a Datejust II 41mm with a yellow gold and steel bracelet, champagne face, yellow gold bezel and diamonds next to every number except the XII and the III (for the rolex logo and the date, respectively). I'm wondering if I should send the watch in to be serviced or take pride in the wear I'm giving my rolex . I am aware of the two year international warranty and seeing as I've owned the watch for exactly 30 days I'm not sure what to do. There is also one strange problem with my watch and that is that there appear to be two minor scratches on the face, one by the XI (11) and one in between the X and XI. I've had it verified at the three authorized rolex dealers around Boston that my watch is an authentic model and the serial numbers are correct. Aside from all this I'm very happy to own one at a young age and want to make the best of this wonderful time piece.

Just enjoy your watch...scratches are inevitable and only add character to the time piece!
When it's due for a service, then have it polished back to new....otherwise, polishing to many times only wears down the case and bracelet!

As for the scratch on the dial, have an AD look it at it, and if they agree it's a QC problem, it will be fixed under your 2 year warranty!

welcome! dial issue is something that should be covered and corrected! for sure. i may be wrong, and others more knowledgeable will pipe in here, but i do not think the sapphire crystal is covered by warrantee?

other scratches on bracelet and such.. just wear it. send it in for service when needed and it will come back brand new!

enjoy.. and you have come to the right place for your rolex needs and questions!

X2, I would send it in to have the "dial scratches" corrected and have the crystal replaced as well. Dial will be warranty issue and the crystal your expense. As for the scratches as others have said where and enjoy, it will happen and soon you will not notice them anymore Would love to see some pics, it sounds like a real beauty

X3 Pay and have the dial/saphire corrected, forget the scratches and have it polished at next service.

X2

The dial will be covered under warranty unless it appears as you caused the issue when the crystal was damaged.

Thanks for all the advice guys ill try to post up some pics as soon as I can for all of you to enjoy especially you MortgageGuy. I went by my local Shreve Crump and Low and he suggested the same to do for the sapphire crystal. As for the scratches on the dial I'm going to check one of the ADs this weekend, either Ross Simmons or Lux Bond and Green. You guys are great!!! :)

Off topic question for Hiya Buddy. Is your handle an obscure reference to an episode of The Office? If so,

@meckert Yea you got that right it is a reference to the office. In fact it is also the name of my gamertag on Xbox live I wonder what the guy on the other side playing Modern Warfare 2 says when they were killed by HiyaBuddy

If Rolex replaces your dial for you under warranty the cost of replacing the crystal will be cheaper since it's going to be open so less labour charges. They won't cover the crystal as that happened to me.

Icon7 Issue Resolved

Well its been a while since I've been back here but, my Rolex was sent to NYC for free and the analysis was that my dial did not have a scratch. It looked like a scratch because of the sunburst pattern on my champagne dial . So I'm glad everything was resolved . I've just been really busy with my sophomore year of college starting and it is hectic . Now I love wearing my Rolex every day and I'm eyeing another, possibly the steel and platinum yacht master.
