In numbers sold, DateJust is the most popular by a wide margin. Not my own favorite, but large numbers are sold every year in both men's and women's models and they are available in a tremendous variety of dials and a choice of bracelets.

Sub, GMT, SD and DSSD certainly have a devoted following but they are men's models only (I know some women wear them, but not in large numbers and a smaller women's model is not available) and come in either one dial color or a small number of colors.

To illustrate, I just checked our a popular used watch site. Right now they have 50 DateJusts, 6 Subs, and 4 GMTs.

I could be wrong, and do not profess to have any sense of mastery with regards to Rolex sales but some of what you said could be a function of era. I think men would get a Datejust as a dressy/white collar watch to wear every day - especially if they were in a suit and tie every day. Then, they wore them on weekends as well.

Today, a sports model can be worn in a business setting. All right, my DSSD does not fit with closely trimmed French cuffs but the Daytona certainly works and I frequently wear one of my beloved GMTs. Rolex sports models (and Omegas, PAMS, etc.) abound in the wild for work, play, casual and dress.

Sports watches used to be seen as a casual or active wear watch. James Bond certainly helped re-define this as did nore and more men, typically younger, wearing their sports model Rolex wathes everyday to their suit and tie jobs. BTW, they're great on weekends as well.

My point is that the Datejust appears ubiquitous but only when considering years and decades of sales. I would think that today the Subs and GMTs are what the Datejust was at one time.M
