F series NIB DJ from AD the same price as a NIB DJ D series
Hi,
I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I am looking for my first Rolex and yesterday when I went to the AD, I was shown two DJ, one is D series and the other one is F series with the same price. Is this common or should I expect lesser price for the F series ? Thanks! |

Welcome to TRF!
AD's can pretty much set their own prices, and if there has been a price increase from Rolex since he got the first DJ, he would simply raise the price of it So you wouldn't get if for less, but if you have good negotiation skills, I would ask for 10 % discount (on either of them, whichever of them you prefer). Such a discount should be possible on a DJ. Good luck! And please post pics of the DJ you choose when you have the time!

Thanks for the speedy answer. I will go back to the AD and negotiate. Btw, the ones I looked at yesterday were both the old style oyster bracelet. Do you have any experience between the old oyster bracelet and the new one ? Which is better ?

Maybe I should change my nick here to "Speedydweller" Anyway, I couldn't say which is "best" of the two. The NEW style Oyster bracelet has SOLID end links and also has SOLID centre links on the bracelet, but has the "disadvantage" (IMHO, that is!) that the centre links are high-gloss polished and will be proned to scratches AND smudge from finger prints etc. The satin finish of the OLD style Oyster bracelet can also get scratches, of course, but you wouldn't notice scratches and finger prints so much on that finish. But then again, you have the "Easy Extension" link on the inside of the clasp of the NEW style Oyster bracelet which is in fact very practical if you have a swelling wrist during summer time I made a thread about the function (or SENSE) of that "Easy Extenson" link, btw, since I was biased as to what the deal of it was (meaning: if it indeed IS a "good feature" or NOT). Here is the thread I mention: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=20684

This is common w/ AD's in my area and they refuse to negotiate period. I have heard many stories on TRF where the AD's will give a discount for instances like this, just not in my area.
I think it depends on the AD. Good luck and let us know how it goes. |

e,
The D is a 2006 build date and the F is earlier. That means these have been sitting on his shelf for 1 or 2 years. Neither one of these would have the "new" bracelet; for that you need to find a late D or Z or newer. Personally I don't think he should be selling the F for the same price as the D, however there is no difference between these two series watches, it's just a matter of when the case was stamped and that could actually be a matter of days between them.. However, your warranty, and when the watch is considered "new" from Rolex perspective is the date of sale and not the date of build. Last edited by Tools; 20 August 2007 at 03:31 AM.. The new bracelet has solid middle links. I am not sure D series has the solid link or not. Unless the AD give you a hugh discount, I would go for the newest one - Z series for the time being.

As mentioned earlier the date of sale starts the warranty but it wouldn't hurt to try for a discount, especially on the F series since it's the oldest.
