$9K for a ROC? Is there something seriously wrong with it??
In any event, I'm biased and would choose the ROC because that's what I just got yesterday. Fantastic watch!

The AP ROC is one of the finest watches ever made, the work on the bracelet is phenomenal. I don't think you can get even a second hand one for 9K.

I've had both and for me the AP would be the first I buy again. They are both great watches, but it just looks better. At least on my wrist.
But if the PP was up against a 15300 I'd to for the PP... |

First of all, the OP is talking about used prices. Yes, you can get a white dial ROC for around $9K and a used PP 5167 is around $14K, so he is right there.
With regards to the choices at hand: tough call, as usual there is an "it all depends" clause. I think a lot of people are going AP because the brand/models are on fire right now (generally speaking, I'm not necessarily talking about the people that answered above). I mean, 2 years ago you could find a used Jumbo A-series for $12K, now they are closing in on $30K!? When I visited swanky Puerto Banus in Spain earlier this summer it was the most worn watch by the rich and famous there. Just saying. I usually let my choices in life be driven by my own personal needs. In this case: How/when are you planning to wear the watch? Is it an everyday piece? Do you work in an office or somewhere else? Do you want/need lume? Is the chrono usefull? Etcetera. I think the AP Royal Oak in general is fantastic. I have the 15300 in rose gold. I find the ROC to actually look a bit better online than in real life. The chrono pushers are way to small for my taste/fingers so they are very hard to use, which at the end irritates me. Also, the lume is pretty useless on the RO/ROC models. Having said that, the Genta design DNA is wonderful and timeless. It might be the obvious choice but I don't think it is a terribly practical choice, I'm afraid. In the case of the PP 5167 it is a rather interesting model. It is PP's own spin-off on the Genta designed Nautilus, thus it doesn't quite have the same pedigree and history. It is powered by the wonderful 324 movement, which is beautiful to inspect and it does have two benefits over the RO/ROC series: a) it comes with enough lume to actually be useful, and b) it is waterproof to 120m so you can actually do water activities with it for real. Having said that, it is a strange unit. It is too sporty to be a dress watch, especially on the rubber strap, and it is too dressy/fragile to be a true sport watch, thus it is a watch that is neither here nor there, so some extent. Then again, rules are meant to be broken! :-) George Soros with his older/smaller 5066a Both watches have two important downsides in common: both have a mix of brushed and polished faces and edges that are rather sensitive to wear (e.g. both have brushed finishes on the top of their bezels that scratches very easily) to they cannot take the type of abuse e.g. a Rolex sport watch can. Secondly, both require service at Corp HQ, which costs a bit more than a Rolex HQ service, and a lot more than a 3rd party service. Neither are really show stoppers but should be factored in IMO. Now if I had to do it all over again - which one would I pick? Probably neither. If you want an AP RO/C, I'd go hunt down the iconic 15202 Jumbo instead and if I'd go with a sport PP, I'd probably go with the iconic Nautilus instead, but I have to admit that there are times I regret selling the PP 5167. Best of luck! PS. The PP 5167 is available on ss bracelet as well. Also, it is a bit more dressed up on a leather strap, e.g. |

Man, show me that $9K used ROC. I'd buy another! They're retailing at almost $23K.

Out of the two I would go ROC, was very close to buying one in September but was looking for a new one and they were a little out of my price range. The watch was extremely comfortable and it looks even better in person. Good luck!

Thanks for that post PSV. I really like the Aqua on a leather strap. I am trying to narrow down my collection to just 3-4 GREAT watches. I think I found my first 2...

PP is great but when compare 5167 with ROC, ROC is the winner IMO.

No papers though? If that's not an issue for you, then go for it. My recent responses were regarding prices and no paperwork would make that watch quite a bit cheaper. Post some pics when you get it! B

AP hands down! But I think that particular PP should be compared to the ROO diver in terms of style.
