over polished 1655 what to do?

Hi all, what should I do with my poorly "restored" 1655.. It's over polished and the dial and hands just don't match.. I have had this watch for years and had it cleaned up before I knew better what should I do now?

Wow! Try getting a set of matching hands to the patina on the dial and the right oyster bracelet.

How did it end up with those hands and that jubilee?

Other than that don't do anything else to it.

+1, I'm afraid you can't really do anything about the case unless you replace it. I would just enjoy it as is.

Well the hands were "restored" (I know - I know) because they were a rusty mess (if I could only go back in time) The jubilee band is just more comfortable then the oyster band (which I still have) ...

wear it as you like it...just find matching hands for the dial

I would just try together hands and an oyster. The case is what it is. It's still your watch! Is it water damaged?

it lived in a wet environment for part of it's life... anyone have a matching hand set ?

Post a WTB (Wanting to Buy) ad on the For Sale section of the forum or check with a parts seller elsewhere.

send it to rolex and let them replace everything with service parts.. IMO it won't change the value of the watch from its current value now, but it will match and have the correct bracelet.. plus, no one polishes a case better then rolex. they will put the crisp chamfer back into the lugs for you.

but if you insist on restoring it with vintage parts, it could take you years and thousands to get the correct parts and alot of luck to get matching hands.

but either way its a beautiful watch you have there and I would just leave it alone and enjoy it currently the way it is.

Thanks for the advice but because it's a 1971/72 1655 rolex in Los Angeles will not touch it.. maybe I can find some matching watch hands, but either way I still enjoy wearing it ..

I would contact Bob Ridley, if he doesnt have the parts to put it back to original I guarantee he knows who does.

- Agreed - Rolex can re-polish the lugs in a way that will disguise the past overpolishing. If Rolex LA won't take it due to age, try Rolex Dallas and Rolex NY. Rolex NY just serviced by circa 1977 Day-Date, so they clearly do service vintage watches.

This would be my recomendation. At least you would have an idea as to much it would cost if you wish to do so.

The case doesn't look to bad, Id try contacting Bob Ridley, to help restore the watch back to it's original condition.

nice daily driver. i like your dial and i like your bracelet. i would look for a new handset and leave it at that. its a great watch that looks like it has been worn and loved for 40 years. to me, mint ones dont look right. yours looks right to me. its great!

Call me up! Might have some hands to help ya out, as for the case, well she's lean, but in good shape. Don't let the idea of having a fat case be something that messed with ya.

I would definitely contact Dalton, he is highly recommended on this forum (and in LA)
