The Platinum was a good card, when they first came out......and I racked up close to 1,000,000 Continental OnePass miles with it, so that part was very good! The concierge services were good, at the beginning, as well.....my kids could actually call an 800 umber, and AMEX would connect them to where ever I was.....that was nice, too! Finally, I had my own dedicated AMEX rep.....
As things degraded, I decided to cancel the card, and as I was spending lots of time in Latin America, I went with Diners, which was (and might still be) the best overall card in Latin America..... For here, I simply use a visa or mastercard, when I do use a card at all. Would not pay the $$ for a Centurion Card.........simply don't see the value, for me....although if someone else paid, well, then, I suppose.......

I have the gold and have been tempted to downgrade to the green or use my sapphire instead. The only reason I didn't was because customer service offered me $75 in points to stay on board when I was up for renewal. This time next year I might have a new go-to card..

I'll stay with the Platinum this year but I too might try to downgrade next year. I think the Gold works better for me since it doubles and triples points on things like gas or groceries. To be honest, that makes the bulk of my purchases.
