Icon5 Help with Submariner info

I am considering either a SS Submariner, or a SS Submariner with no date. I have been browsing the For Sale ads here and would like more info on what each "Series" means. Like maybe a breakdown of the differences from series to series.

I checked the Reference Library here and was unable to locate such info...

Can anyone point me in the correct direction? Thanks

The 14060 non date sub was first introduced 1990 then it had the cal 3000 movement.Around 2001 the movement was slightly modded into the cal 3130 which is basically a cal 3135 without the date complication.Over the years it has changed very little the movement change and the change from Tritium lume to Luminover around 1998. All other very very very minor cosmetic changes mainly fonts like they are COSC tested now so have chronometer on dial etc.And Rolex have never made a series of any watch all the letter numbers are case serial stamps a approximation by some Internet code when the case was stamped nothing more.As for the 16610 date sub that was introduced 1988/9 with the cal 3135 again its changed very little since introduction. The lume change from Tritium to Luminover around 1998 SEL bracelet around 2000. From 2001 the LEC on crystal if you can find it,end of 2002 the start of the non lug hole cases.Around 2004/5 the Rolex Rolex Rolex on the Rehaut and the different case stamps and thats about it you cannot go far wrong with any Rolex sub.
