hod do i tell the age of a Rolex date just

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to tell how old a datejust is. can this be worked out via the model number and if so where can i get this information from.

I am new to Rolex so just trying to get my groundings before i make a purchase.

it can be done -approximately- from the serial number which is in between the lugs ( wear the bracelet joins the the head of the watch at 6 o'clock

you can gauge the approximate year with the model number, and an even closer year based on the serial number.

im cant quite find the site that has the details, but i do have a copy in an excel file

Some older ones will have the quarter and the year stamped inside the case like my 1971 DJ.

Charts can be a help or a hindrance.. All charts are guesses and any that say that a watch will exactly fall on a certain year is incorrect.. All anybody knows is when a certain serial range was first seen on the market, then when that same range faded out; usually a span of 3 to 4 years..

We have a chart in our Reference Library and instructions on how to use the chart, as well as clasp codes...
