16800 questions....matt dial timeline...

I've been wearing my 16800 Sub for just about one month now. I like everything about it. I am now thinking about getting a second 16800, except with the older dial for weekend wear.

Questions:
Is the attached photo an (ebay example) a Matt, or Non-Matt dial, as this is the model I am thinking about picking up next spring,....?

Did all 16800 models include the sapphire crystal..., as that is what I would like as well...?

thanks,

It's indeed a matt dial version.

The 16800 was the first Sub to introduce the sapphire crystal on a diver. In addition it was the first diver to feature a quick-set date, 120 click ratching uni-directional bezel and a fast beat movement.

Early examples featured the matt dial (sometimes reffered to as a "transitional") before Rolex made the switch to a gloss dial with WG surrounds.

thanks...

Thanks for the quick answer...As I have said before, the wealth of information on TRF is amazing. I am very much a newbie, but I feel like I am making progress in my steep learning curve.

Here is my daily watch, it has the wg you mentioned on the dial dots...
