Unlike nearly every other branch of motorsports, F1 seems relatively immune from global economic ups and downs. It's especially amazing to me given the incredible costs of fielding a team.

The latest big news is that Ferrari and Red Bull have pulled out of FOTA (the Formula One Teams Association), reportedly over the resource restriction agreement. Could be the big political story of the next season. There are also still several gaps on the driver list for teams, so I'll be looking forward to seeing that develop over the next couple of weeks

Big Jensen Button fan here and Mclaren being my favourite team. Huge money in F1 at the moment,no wonder Bernie Ecclestone is mega rich.Wish them a good season next year. Kimi is a great driver but i wish he looked happy occasionally !

I used to love Kimi when he was at McLaren. I was a big Hakkinen fan, then Raikkonen came along. Raikkonen left and Hamilton showed up. It'll be interesting to see Raikkonen back in Formula One!

When Kimi realises that he will have to find the form that he had 3 years before he was binned by Ferrari just to finish 5th or 6th in not the best car? I cant see it myself, he has to reinvent his mindset in my oppinion. A lot of hungry guys on that grid with equal natural talent. I just hope kimi knuckles down and doesnt get bored.
Ref the FOTA issue, surely teams like Mclaren and Ferrari can fiddle overheads with their car building enterprises to reduce the perceived running costs of their team. I think Mclaren spent $300 million in one season a few years back, absolutely unreal expenditure.

Good luck to Hamilton and Button again.
Good to see the lads flying the flag for their native Switzerland and Monaco respectively.

I do too, I loved it when Sato passed Alonso at Australia (I think) a few years ago. Within a couple of races McLaren had found some speed so it never happened again. If nothing else I always got a laugh when Steve Matchett called them "Super Best Friends".

Americans can't do it, though. I think the US is one of the few countries that taxes their citizens even if they don't live and work in the US.

I hope the guys in Austin can get their act together, I'd love to see F1 back in the USA. I had a great time at the Indy races. And I hope to see Kimi with the drive he had at Sauber, not the Kimi who was bored with the sport and just collecting a paycheck.

That would put button back into a Honda and according to the article fulfill Hamilton's dream of driving with Honda, as his hero Senna did.
Very interesting. I hope it works, too.

Hi guys..
Here is another update form the Formula news corner that Williams have confirmed that Pastor Maldonado will remain with the team next season. It will be the Venezuelan’s second year racing in F1, following a tough rookie campaign in which he secured one world championship point. Williams also announced the promotion of reigning GP3 champion Valtteri Bottas to the role of reserve driver. Bottas is expected to participate in a Friday practice session at the majority of 2012 Grands Prix. |

However, I don't think Räikkönen is going to be a big hit anymore. Also he's not popular by Mika Häkkinen or Keke Rosberg standards over here.

NJ should be a better fit for a long-term US Grand Prix. 20+ Million people within 2 hr driving distance. Street circuit so low capital expense to amortize over the contract period. But they'd better pay Bernie on time.
Austin, unfortunately, has already had odiferous atmosphere about its management. They can't make enough money in the current model to sustain a long-term F1 presence. If they manage a 2012 race (doubtful currently), I sense Chapter 13 around the next corner.

I suppose I am biased, the Austin track is an hour from my house, less if I drive like Kimi, lol. I REALLY hope the Austin peeps get their act together and pull it off.

Hi signcarver
Thanks for the update and Ya its true that Formula 1 will be back in the US in 2013. it was in news that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie talks about the state hosting a Formula One Grand Prix race in 2013 during a news conference, Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, in Weehaken, N.J. The 3.2-mile course will run along the Hudson River through Weehawken and West New York, then climb uphill before looping back around. The U.S. hasn't hosted a Formula One race since 2007 in Indianapolis. A race is also scheduled for Austin, Texas, in 2012. |
