Worst hit for resale value among all Rolex models..
DayDate II platinum? Especially considering Rolex no longer give any discount.
The higher you climb the harder you fall.. In this case, specially those DD2 plat with diamond dials will be worse? So far I have seen that most of Rolex SS sport model are doing very well.. Considering even those unpopular DSSD are doing well too, eg I paid around 8k for my DSSD when it just launched, now I can easily get that amount back if I wish to flip it, of cos I am not as I love my DSSD. Not that I know the answers, just curious what everyone thinks? I guess we all have our own opinion on this. Cheers and happy holidays! ..... Jennifer |

IMO - if you are in the DDII Pt diamond dial league/club... You shouldn't have to worry about the possible lack of resale value of it...

Rolex's Cellini range. Resale values are very poor as not many people are interested in them, not even on TRF where Rolex essentially means Oyster models.

Most all Rolex watches will take like they say a hit if bought new at retail, but myself buy a Rolex watch because I want too.But all we seem today to get on TRF will this or that go up or down. Will this because its got the tinest font change be more valuable than the other ones etc.Its sad today that the brand Rolex is looked on as just ££££$$$$$,gone are they days when you just went to the AD and bought your watch full knowing you would have a watch for a lifetime.

I've got to agree with padi56. I buy a watch because it's a watch not as an investment. Enjoy it and don't worry about its resale value in x number of years time.

Sorry I not intend to sell any watches yet.. Just wondering.. Cos few days ago, someone offered me a deal to buy my pp5712r, i bought it as a give to my husband but he seldom use it especially now I just got him a pp5980r.. Less than 18 months, the pp5712r gained almost 15% as a pre own now compared to what i paid for brand new 18 months ago. That's a great deal. Now I am back to thinking about some of my rolex. eg I paid msrp close to 70k for 218206 with diamond roman.. I am not selling it anytime soon as he love his dd2, almost a daily beater for him, golf, pool and spa everyday.

I think the DD in platinum MIGHT be harder to sell versus the typical SS diver because the DD plat is priced at such a very high price point that a big, healthy secondary market for it is hard to create and find. In a way, self-limiting, thus re-sale value MIGHT be weakened.
I also agree with Padi56's point about buying a Rolex from an AD knowing it will last a lifetime. It's hard to reconcile the logic, in general terms, of buying a watch as an investment. |

I wonder if it was built from part just so she knew it would be all original?

Many others look at watches much differently than I do.
I consider the joy of ownership as having value. If I buy a watch that I really love, regardless of what I paid for it, then that emotion can be factored into the resale value, in the unlikely event that I have to sell it. As an example, about 20 years ago, I had the opportunity to by some "investment" grade, certified coins. I have been something of a numismatist since about the age of 12, but I just never had enough money to really own much else than the pennies I had taken from circulation as a child. I could admire, but I could not own. Finally, having the opportunity to get onto the certified, "investment" coin bandwagon was pretty exciting both from the standpoint of the prospect of the appreciation of the coins, but also having these coins in my possession was a real pleasure. Unfortunately, the market for these coins never materialized and I had bought at the market's highest prices in the history of coinage, before and since. When I was really destitute, after having completed grad school, I was desperate enough to have to sell my coins and I got a small fraction of what I paid for them and to make things worse, I sold them back to the company that sold them to me. However, I was not devastated by this turn of events. I looked at this way. For several years, I had in my possession, little objets d'art that I had taken immense pleasure in owning and when the times dictated my selling them, they still had value. I was a winner on both counts. As noted earlier, not everyone thinks as I do, but that is my point of view.

if you buy brand new from the ad and want to sell a week later you will lose on every model, but if you keep the watch long enough you may even get more than you paid for it.

To play devils advocate when our chosen brand has the best resale value of any watch brand on the planet one can't help but factor that into buying decisions to some degree.
Imo too much speculation on future value takes the enjoyment out of the hobby, but I can understand how easy it could be to start collecting Rolex for so called "investment" purposes. No watch is an investment, and in a perfect world all watch purchases would be for the sheer joy of ownership. |
