Use to go to Sears for Craftsman tools and Kenmore appliances. The Kenmore product line has gone downhill IMHO. Still like Craftsman tools though.

Almost as many rumours as the demise of the Sub!

Sears always seemed to be the place to go to when you needed assistance with appliance and tool purchases. Their staff always seemed to be real knowledgeable and helpful.

Sears made it's name in retail a long time ago. Heck they had the Sears and Roebuck Catalogue where at one time you could even buy a home from the Catalogue. Kind of a precursor to the internet.

Some see the Sears Tower in Chicago as Sears pinnacle moment, when in fact it was probably one of their biggest mistakes. Such a great expense but not a very good investment.

Unfortunately things have changed greatly over the years and they have not been able to adapt like they needed to stay in the lead. Catalogues are extremely cost prohibitive and Malls are not what they once were. Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and Lowes did not really exist until the 70's and 80's. Sears has been on a downhill slide at least since the seventies.

I went to Sears a few weeks ago to pick up some stocking stuffers. Sadly, the Craftsman hand tools are not all made in the USA anymore. Some are marked made in China. Instead of Craftsman brand I picked up a few Estwing hammers (still made in the USA).

Sears has ruined Lands End. :(

I used to buy Craftsman, now I buy Kobalt, and that was before I knew Craftsman weren't made in the U.S. anymore which drives home Sears real demise, Home Depot and Lowes!

I thought the bi lingual thing was just a California accomodation. There are a lot of Sears stores in Mexico; I think it is just a way to tap the Mexican customers in the USA. My local Sears is somewhat swarthy, now that I think about it.

I haven't been in a Sears in many, many years. My best memory about them, as another poster mentioned, were the great Christmas catalogs they put out. Between those, JcPenny's, and K's Merchandise Mart, I was in heaven!

Been in Sears twice in ten years, once to use the bathroom.

Both times I thought "No way can this store survive." But it does keep going and going and going.

Always had great respect for the Craftsman brand--had no idea it wasn't made in the US anymore. That's a shame.
