Brothers of the leaf society!!

Good evening fellow TRFers! Based on the great response we've had with the what are you puffing on thread and in speaking to my friend Dan Pierce, I propose that we start up a cigar aficionado's club - a Brothers of the Leaf Society if you will. Seeing as we have so many members who are avid cigar smokers this should be great fun! All are welcome to join and check back often for upcoming GTG's at cigar shops! So, who's with us?

Excellent, I'm in and glad to be here!
Might have to celebrate tomorrow since it should be warm enough to enjoy a stick.

I don't know much about cigars, so I'll ask here; I have smoked a few cigars, but don't know much about them
I was given a cigar recently and wondered if anyone knew anything about it
its an "alcazar #1 maduro"
is it good?, Any particular scothch/whiskey go good with it (I love Scotch/whiskey, so I might as well pair it )
Thanks for any help

You know I've always been curious about pipe smoking. What are the major differences besides the obvious between pipe smoking and cigar smoking?

I would like to be included, I smoke maybe 4-6 times a year so I'm hardly an "aficionado" but I like to be kept up to date on the sticks I should try...

Hey Mike! I've smoked a couple of those in the past with very different results. The first one I had as soon as it was given to me and I could tell that the cigar hadn't been aged. The burn was uneven and the draw wasn't very smooth. I took the second one home and gave it a few months in the humidor and wow what a difference. With proper aging they would make a great everyday cigar - give them time and be patient and they make for an enjoyable 1 hr to 1 hr & a half smoke. To answer your pairing question, I would go for a McCallan 12 or a Glenfiddich 18.

The unusually warm 52 degrees and full sun allowed me to enjoy a Fuente Hemingway Signature.

Nice long ashes Dan! I just received these and can't wait to light one up. They are the # 2 cigar on Cigar Aficionado's 2011 list. I'm going to give them a few days in the humidor to settle but it's so hard to wait! Watch your mailbox, i'm going to send a couple your way!!
