I love both watches, I wouldn't buy a watch just because others love it. I love the simplicity of the dials, and really want something on a strap. Also in the mix is an AP Black Theme and Blancpain FF Chrono
Decisions decisions...

I'm a fan of PP and AP but I'd vote BP FF for something different as you already have an AP. The Aquanaut styling doesn't do anything for me... same great movement on several other models though. I also don't like having to cut the rubber strap to size.

Yes Mike, I agree on the strap cutting downfall... I really love my AP, which is why I'm considering a 2nd AP as my next watch.
How does the Blancpain chrono compare to an AP chrono (Black themes)?

AP without a doubt. Purely the look, however if it is the Nautilus, I may have some slight doubt.

PP Aquanaut for me in this comparison, though the Diver is a lovely watch for sure on its own.

But my honest suggestion for sports category, here is my listing in all honesty:
1). BP FF (chrono or non) over everything else in the world.
2). black dial Breguet Marine Big Date.
3). GO PanoRama date sport evo.

I've owned both (bought from AD, yum, fresh watches...)

It all depends on what else you have an how you plan to use the watch.

The PP Aquanaut has a stunning finish and it it very comfortable and light. It virtually disappears on the wrist. The lume is actually quite good and very useful. But at the end of the day, it is a watch that is neither here nor there. The design doesn't lend itself to be a dress watch (the case/bezel shape is a bit on the ugly side) especially on that tropical rubber strap. And it is way too delicate to be a true sport watch, even if it is waterproof to 120m.

The AP Diver has an equally stunning finish and it one of the more minimalistic and most attractive ROO's in my book. The wrist presence is substantial, which might be both a good and bad thing, depending on who you ask. The thick case and lots of metal + the very wide rubber strap gives it a completely different vibe than the AP. As much as I liked the clean design I found it not to be very comfortable on MY wrist and the lume is totally sub-par.

Both watches fall in the luxury sport watch segment, non of them are actually very useful as sport watches I think. I would hate to bang a Aquanaut or AP Diver against the concrete wall of the pool, but I don't hesitate to wear my Rolex divers in those situations. My PP AD told me that I shouldn't use the Aquanaut under any vigorous sport activities like e.g. playing golf. WFT?! What's the point of having a sport watch if you are not using it for sport?!

Oh well. Both are very special watches from two of my favorite houses. You would be happy and proud to own either, but again, they are not terribly practical watches IMO. If pushed to chose, I might actually go with the PP. No wait, the Diver. No wait...

First wrist shot after unboxing, before adjusting the rubber strap

Same thing on the AP ROO Diver, right after unpacking it.

I've tried both on and they both had their merits.
The diver is very 'in-your-face'. Not subtle at all. For a watch you can wear for the next few years with jeans it's great.

The Patek is super subtle - especially if you get it on the steel bracelet. You'll be wearing the Patek for years as it's not going to date as easily - partly because the design is not so distinctive.

Both have relatively delicate movements but at least with the patek you can see it through the caseback.

Not knowing how you'll use the watch I would personally choose the Patek espacial;ly if you already have a Royal oak.

That's kind of my feeling, too. I'm no expert on either, though.

I have an AP Diver, but I wish I had purchased the aquanaut. I prefer the display back of the aquanaut so I can see the movement.

AP Diver, PP Aquanaut is a bit girlish to me anyway and do not scream PP in my eyes and I am a fan of bigger watches so the Diver is the winner...

Also I think you are comparing apples and pears,

AP Diver - Sportwatch
PP Aquanaut - Dresswatch

I'm very fond of AP but not on rubber, that said the PP would take my vote.

Cheers,
K

There is no answer! :-)

Still, today, I'd say it is a coin toss, both are fantastic and worthwhile pieces. I'd venture into unchartered territory by saying that the AP Diver is a bit more American and the Aquanaut a bit more European! :-)
