My new G-Shock arrived today. It's a GW-3000B-1AER, and is to use for running / exercising as well as general car / bike repairs etc - anything I don't want to wear a smarter watch for (in case I damage it).

I though it might be hard to set up (having read a few comments on-line), but it wasn't really. It's solar powered, has the "tough" movement and picks up the time from a radio signal.

Took it out for its first run today, and although it is big it isn't cumbersome and was pretty comfy and easy to read.

It couldn't be more of a contrast to my other watches. Plain and simple / less is more; that's my usual approach. But, this is a pure tool. Although, oddly, some reviews describe it as "dressy"! I would hate to see their idea of a tool watch!

I have an old Casio that I sometimes wear for knocking around..
Funny, the more I get into the high end watches; the more I appreciate the lower end watches also. They are fun to have..

The Gshock is a classic in its own right. ..

Don't worry, I get where your coming from. I see watches like this as specific tools to help protect our fine timepieces.

It did tickle me to read this described as a watch to wear in every situation and as dressy.

I think it's definitely you...
IMO - there are different types of WIS, each to his/her own as you have mentioned.
To me, those digital G Shocks are a great addition to anyone's collection. It has changed the way many people think and use digital time pieces.

What I don't reaaly get is those self proclaimed WISs goes out and strap on a massive fressbee on his/her wrist and trying to convinence everyone that it is okay to wear it....

I have that watch too! I think the technology that goes in that watch is fantastic. I screwed up the time on the watch one day, placed it on my window ledge and the time was reset at night while I was sleeping.

Precisely why I have one, too. Can't beat it for golfing, running, biking, hiking, fishing, etc. Great choice!

Just be aware that the chronograph only runs for 24 minutes, so it probably won't be right for timing your runs (but I use Runkeeper on my phone for that).
