I voted "neither". I'm not a fan of the ROO AP's. I don't have a DD but am always impressed with the all-gold look. The DD is still an awful lot of gold watch, and I just don't see a reason to go bigger with the DDII.

I had seen and tried on the DD several times before I first laid eyes and hands on Big Brother. Certainly, the first time I saw the DDII the enormity of the case and dial were almost off-putting for me. However, after extended trials of both watches at the AD, my mind was made up - DDII it was.

As I've had it on my wrist constantly since purchase, I could not imagine being happier with my time piece. It's phenomenally heavy, and has enough presence to fill up an entire room, all on it's own. My advice would be to get some extended wrist time with both DD and DDII if you're deciding between the two, and have someone take pictures of the two watches on you for comparison.

If that's you in your avatar, you look like a younger gentleman, certainly under 60. Given that and your appearance, I would highly recommend DDII, and also recommend it over the AP (unless it's going to be a YG or RG Royal Oak on bracelet ($44k)).
Yes that is me in my avatar, except it's a pic from 1999. Now I'm 39, but basically look the same. Thanks for the advice.

I guess I forgot to mention that I want to make the purchase to myself for my 40th birthday in July. Never owned a all gold watch, nor an AP. One or the other, but someone I think I'll end up with both at some point.

I like both watches and I am sure you will be happy with either one, it should be an easy pick for you as they are not close in price...
Voted day date II but the Safari is one of the very few APs I would consider

Ditto. You might consider the DDII with smooth bezel and stick markers. Absolutely beautiful IMHO.

Had a Safari. In my opinion its a very nice looking Watch. Before having it I was used to 40mm Rolexwatches so for me it feelt at times a bit big. But if you're ok With the size I think you Will appreciate it. Let us now the outcome:-).

voted neither. i would rather chose a classic 36mm dd or a classic ap ro or roc. between these, it would be a hard choice......

I'm a big fan of the AP Safari. Not a fan of the DD2. I don't get that watch at all. Who makes a dress watch that size? When the big watch trend dies it will look even more ridiculous and outdated. Its not like the watch has complications that demands a bigger case. The 36 mm DD is pure class though. All IMHO as usual. Good luck deciding, after all it is you who are going to wear the watch and nobody else

They are two very different watches in terms of genre, the DDII is more formal and has all the history (well at least the DD hase ), a very beautiful watch to have and enjoy and be admired. The Safari is a different thing all together, if not the most refined then one of the most refined sports chronographs ever made.

Your choice largely depends on your current collection and the functionality and purpose of the watch.

Both are among the best watches made to date.

You wont go wrong with either
