Rolex at Wynn LV

So I go to the Wynn jewelry store and the Rolex store and both are out of the GMTIIC, as expected. However, the sales lady in the Rolex store directs me to the 16710 in Pepsi and Burgundy/Black and I tell her I already have a Fat Lady. She starts laughing and says she has never heard of that. She then calls the other sales person who she said has been selling Rolexes for a long time and he starts smirking at me like I'm an idiot off the street.

I wish Mike were with me to give them a history lesson!

That way I could have done this... to them.

LOL! I've not had much luck in Vegas. Last time I was there I was in a well known store with a particularly nice vintage piece when the sales girl asked me "are you ready to get rid of that old watch?"

I've never been to Lost Wages, a friend of mine was there recently and was at Wynn's, where she said the salesman there was very high pressure when she was looking at the Rolexes.

And nada on the discounts there apparantly.

Yikes.

After more than 400 business trips to Las Vegas in regards to community developments I've concluded that Vegas isn't actually on planet Earth. There must be a big shiny sphere that you fly into that takes the plane or car you're in to another dimension in which Las Vegas exists. NOTHING else explains how messed up that place is at so many levels.....

"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"

You roll the dice (literally and figuratively) when doing anything in Vegas.

The quality and consistency of service is very erratic and suspect.

They don't call it "sin city" for nothing.

Perhaps you can get a good deal and have a good buying experience in Vegas, but don't expect to do so.

I always wonder most of the Rolex store sales don't have much knowledge about Rolex. Especially compare with all the Rolex lover here.

Actually.. that's where I recently had purchased my Sea Dweller. But, basically I had done my own research in deciding what I wanted and they basically had one in stock and sold it to me tax free.

The only thing I ever buy in Vegas is adult beverages. I like the bars and the pools in the day time. Well I did pay for a .... well, nevermind. ;-)

I have been to that Rolex store twice so far. While one of the people was very nice to me, another person acted like I was wasting their time. I never asked to be helped, the salesman just followed me around as if I was going to pee on the rug.

I actually had decent luck purchasing a Rolex at the Mirage about 7 years ago. I took my wife in there to look at a watch for her. She got a really good idea of what she wanted but we were not ready to buy because we wanted to look back home at some of the local AD's in Houston. Not only did the local AD's treat us poorly, they refused to talk about anything under full price. Christmas was coming up and I came across the card from the salesman at the Mirage. Not only did he remember us from 2 months earlier, he remembered exactly the watches we looked at and which was my wife's favorite. He offered me about a 15% discount and shipped it tax free the next day. Easiest Rolex purchase yet. He even sent a thank you note a few weeks later. A few months later, that salesman sent a note telling us he moved to another dealer on the strip but I lost the card and I'm sure he has moved again anyway. Too bad because I wanted to track him down recently when I got crappy service from the local AD this week when looking to get a new GMT II C.

The dealer at Wynn does look pretty snooty though. I would stick with one of the more seasoned hotels that has an AD. Ceasars or MGM seem a little happier to have people visit them since they have to compete with the new 'over the top' hotels like Wynn or Belagio. Vegas was more fun when you could stay at a nice hotel, in a nice room, eat a nice dinner and not pay out the a$$. Now these places want top dollar for everything in addition to your gambling $$$.

Oh and I forgot to add, the Wynn Rolex AD stated the 16710 was still being produced and would be produced until the end of 2007 contrary to what others have posted about production already being halted. Take it for what its worth..

OK, I have some stories about the Rolex shop at the Wynn. In July, I purchased a white Explorer II from them.

The salespeople at the store were nice and not high-pressure, but I didn't get the sense that they knew anymore about Rolex than I did. They volunteered to ship the watch home to avoid sales tax, but otherwise said they don't budge on MSRP. As others have said here, Las Vegas Rolex dealers don't have much motivation to discount since there's a steady stream of people.

What concerned me most, though, was the abysmal job the lady did sizing my Explorer. When I got back to my hotel and was examining the Explorer II, I noticed that two of the link screws were not screwed in all the way and there were also some small scratches near the screws. While removing a link, it appeared that she had met some resistance and tried to force it, giving up and leaving it half screwed in. I am glad I noticed this, because it easily could have worked itself loose -- causing the entire watch to fall off of my wrist, possibly without me noticing. I debated about immediately taking it back, but decided I didn't want the same lady "fixing" it. So I waited until I got home, bought a jeweler's screwdriver set, and was able to size the watch properly and screw all the screws in tightly. But I was in shock that she would have let the watch leave the store that way. Had she never sized a watch before?? I just assumed they would be experts at that. I could turn the half-screwed-in screw with my fingers -- it would have come loose on its own in a day or two. Unbelievable.

On the plus side, they did give me a bottle of chilled Wynn water to take with me as I left the store. So there is that. (Shrug.)

While in Vegas, I visited the Wynn Watch store several times. Many people assume that the Rolex store is operated by Rolex, but it's really just a separate storefront for the Wynn Watch store that only sells Rolex watches. It's the same company, with the same salespeople (many bounce between the two stores), same name on the receipt, etc. The Wynn Watch store has a great selection of watches, and I enjoyed browsing them as though I were in a museum. I interacted with two salespeople, and they were extremely patient, non-pressure, and eager to tell me little details about each watch. One spent about 45 minutes taking me all through the store and enthusiastically recalling the history of each watch. They seemed to be watch fans themselves and knew a great deal; I would have happily bought a watch from them, but had my heart set on the white Explorer after reading all the mid-summer raves here. :) So I think it's hit-or-miss with the salespeople.

You will find a huge selection of watches in Las Vegas, all within a small area. It's great for window shopping or seeing different models "in the flesh." I spent quite awhile browsing the Tourneau store at the Caesar Forum Shops, and ended up purchasing an Omega Seamaster there. So it turned out to be an expensive trip!

I also have fond memories of Vegas because on an earlier trip, I stumbled across a green LV Explorer after searching for one unsuccessfully around the D.C. area. It was sitting in the display case of a watch store in the NY NY Casino (Grand Central Watch; on my last trip, I noticed they no longer carry Rolex, so they must no longer be an AD). I snatched it up and was more than happy to pay MSRP (they didn't try charging more), since many AD's at the time were charging above MSRP for the LV. The LV is still my favorite.

I will say that the lume on the Seamaster is mighty impressive, though. I bought the 007 model with the blue rubber band, and it's extremely comfortable.

I'm afraid to go back to Las Vegas.

Wow what an experience. I dont think I would ever purchase from the ADs in Las Vegas, just because there are usually no discounts over there. I agree that no AD over there is really motivated to sell their watches at a discount since they have a large stream of costumers. They do however, have a VERY large selection of models to choose from. I went to the store at the Bellagio and was blown away at just how many watches they had for sale. It was unbelievable. Too bad they cannot couple that huuuge selection with a nice, friendly discount.

I will always go visit the ADs in Las Vegas since they have such a broad selection of models for sale. However, I will probably make my purchase in Oregon instead or maybe even when I plan to go to Japan.
