New Member, Got a Question

Hi, I just joined the forum. I am Roy and I live in Texas. My question is (tried the search feature but could not find a similar problem) the stem on my Datejust will not screw all the way back in, any ideas how big a problem this is? The watch is about 18 years old and still works great except for this.

And of course, if you know of how it is repaired, do you know the approximate cost a certified Rolex dealer would charge?

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Roy

Welcome to TRF.

Sounds like it's probably time to have the watch serviced. For a full service your probably looking at about $500.

There's a RSC in Dallas. Send it in for repair.

What do you mean all the way in the crown is not supposed to touch the case.Has watch ever been serviced if not do so, crown and crown tube will be replaced as part of that service.

It sticks out approximately 1/8 inch or so. It can be pushed it but has a "springy" feel and just pops back out.

I took the advice of another responder and just called the Dallas service center and the lady there told me it would be in the $600-800 range for a complete overhaul. She said I could either drop it off, mail in it or have the authorized Rolex dealer here in Ft. Worth send it in. I will probably just have the dealer send it in to avoid the post office hassle, etc.

Seems pretty expensive to me but I will now have an almost new watch so guess it is okay.

I did use the date of manufacture post to find out that mine was probably made in 1991. I purchased it in the fall of that year. Bought my wife a ladies Datejust in 1992 for our 25th wedding anniversary. Hers is still running perfectly!

Thanks to all of you for the help.

You'll get a nice 2 year warranty from Rolex on its return too!
If you have a look around the forum you'll see posts on what exactly happens to your watch during a full service. It's quite enlightening
After seeing that you'll probably wonder why it is so cheap to have the service done!

Here's a good one
