Thinking of pulling the trigger on this one, have to have my wrench give her a once over this weekend

Nice looking but the sprocket looks huge, is that original?
Not to mention the fishtails. |

It's a newly built custom bike with a 1979 Harley iron head engine in it that was built and just completed by a local wrench here in town that does these new builds in the old style
Compared to an early or mid 1950's bike, these new builds are cheap and fully rideable |

It's a bit to "Mickey Mouse" for my taste. Why don't you get an early Softail and add your own "nostalgia" pieces? |

I guess it's cute and everything but perhaps you should consider one of these. There's nothing quite like stuffing a V8 between your legs...

Very interesting and nice composition of old and new! I'm pleased to find someone that considers buying a custom bike that doesn't requiers outrageous looks ;with a thick rear tire, telescopic fork and Orange County attitude of badass. I would only suggest an addition to make it more nostalgic: suicide shifter. I say go for it and enjoy!

It does look pretty sharp.
Have you ever rode a ridgid frame bike before? Their fun around town hopping from bar to bar but pretty tough on the body for any extended riding. The sprung seat will help a bit with comfort. I'm not a huge fan of Sportster's, however it should come in at better price than a big twin even of that era & I do really like the look of the shovel head engine. Is it running a narrow glide Sportster front end or FX narrow with dual disc conversion, or are the photo angles hiding an aftermarket wide glide set up? If its narrow then I'm not sure that I would be comfortable with the wide swept back bars. All in all it looks nice so hopefully it meets your riding style & checks out with your mechanic. Oh & don't forget, there's no place to put the pretty ladies on back with that solo seat. |

Very cool. I love shovel-heads. It won't ride like your Road King, but you already know that.

Attachment 257167[/QUOTE] Ok. So you've already got the big twin, wide glide, marshmallow seated, land yacht to ride the highway with & haul the babes around on ,so the sporty can then be used for its main purpose of bar hopping. You should buy the Sporty. It's so much fun spending other peoples money |

It's an Ironhead. Shovelheads are big twins. The one in question is 1000cc's

I rode a 1969 XLH for the better part of ten years. I had a lot of fun on it. Up to 300 miles in a day at times and if anyone rode an Ironhead Sportster, they know how uncomfortable they are. I wouldn't ride a non rubber mounted or counterbalanced motor in a rigid frame. Your back and kidneys won't like you.
The oil tank on mine was on the right side of the MC and on a hot day I would have blisters on the back of my thigh Yes...I always wore jeans. Never shorts.

I like the look. It's a real head turner. I wouldn't want to ride it far (I wouldn't mind trying) but you already have the bike for that.

An ironhead "troublehead" sporty. Nice looking custom. I hope you are ready to live the ironhead sporty woes!!! The ironhead sporties are a tough sell. I like the bike but would love it with a full "troublehead shovelhead" pan-bottom engine with a ratchet-top, kick-only tranny. See if he can build one of those bad-boys for you! Below is a pic of my 1999 custom Harley Evo chopper with a ratchet-top 4-speed kick only tranny. The hardtails are a blast.

Fishtails rule !!!
I know I`m never gonna have a Harley but if I did it would have fishtails. On second thought I could get rid of two or three of my other bikes, then again, maybe not,I just don`t know which ones. |

If only 1 bike, F6C Valkyrie.
Both fast and comfortable.
