Am I alone here with this one?
So a colleague of the business is in my bosses office and I notice the PP on his wrist. I comment "nice timepiece" and smile. My manager knows I'm a WIS and asks me which one Im wearing today. I show the Daytona. Then we all get to talking about watches and how this colleague has another PP on order coming in soon. Fun conversation and all but I went back to my desk to work.
This is the watch he was wearing: I cannot help but think how ugly this thing is. It is so boring looking, and if anything doesnt look the price to me. Im sure its a great watch, solid and keeps great time. But I cannot fathom spending that much on a name. Anyone else feel the same way about this watch? |

I moved the thread because its not Rolex related, myself not a fan of quite a few of the Patek models, just don't like the style. And for me its how a watch looks I always wear a watch I like and not a brand on the dial.

Their is nothing special about that 5711, however, add on the moonphase and some complications starting with 5712 then come back so we can talk Undoubtedly so Patek's are not for everyone

The 5711 is one of the best Patek's imo and I would love to own it one day. But I'm not a general fan of PP. Most of their models are rather dull. But the simple Nautilus without any complications
Best thing about the Nautilus is that PP hasn't flooded the market with limited editions every 15 minutes. |

Ugly? Boring? I would have to disagree on both counts. Awesome watch, just a little too pricey for me.

Personally, its not my cup of tea either. I find the shape to be a little feminine, I would much rather get the Caltrava or any of the calendar PP. The price is obviously over the top as well.

I love all the Genta stuff, 5711 included. Just don't think I can bring myself to drop of 25 grand on an SS watch.

I think it's all a matter of what you like. Obviously you think he paid for the name because you don't find that timepiece impressive but perhaps he sees it as a grail or a watch that suits him very well (in his opinion), therefore he thinks he had a great deal on it because he enjoys it a lot! I for one like this Patek (although I prefer the complicated models) but can understand someone isn't ready to spend that much money on what looks like a "regular watch".
May I ask what's the one he's waiting for?

I have to disagree with the OP I love the PP Nautilus and Aquanaut. Given the right circumstances I would by an Aquanaut in a flash

I don't love it, but I certainly don't hate it or think it's ugly. Something tells me if I were given/had one I'd grow to love it.

I don't like the PP designs at all. I cannot warm to the look although i do appreciate the attention to detail in the finished product. Not for me though.

I want a Nautilus too...I am looking for a Rose Gold. They are watches that grow on you. I never paid attention to Patek until maybe last year, then I went and got an Aquanaut.
Now I am a big fan.

I agreed it does look ugly and boring on the internet. But once you put one on your wrist, it matches the contour of the wrist perfectly. I bought a 5711r and definitely my favourite watch among my collections. Like a white Daytona ss; under certain light, it simply breathtakingly beautiful!

I think that the Nautilus design grows on you, and I also think that it does looks much better in person than in photos, especially the dial.

The Patek design is not for me either. I've been a watch enthusiast most of my life.

The 5712 is a great watch.
Just not for me. I quickly got tired of setting the moonphase every time I wanted to wear it. Now, the simpler 5711 is perfect. It's got no annoying complication to reset, the WR is double at 120m, it's cheaper to service, and I like the clean uncluttered dial. |

Not my taste at all..... Calatrava is a much nicer look. This one reminds me of the Royal Oak.... but more sublime but still not having the elegance of what I've always thought PP had as a style.
