Which Lange?
Hi,
Please help guys - I have decided to buy one of the brands I have desired for a long time and have narrowed it down to 2 models - the Lange 1815 in white gold or the saxonia auto in rose gold. Both are in roughly the same price range and hence cost is not the issue here but these are the only price range I can afford for now and so, pls don;t recommend me the Lange 1 or better. I like the 1815 as the dial is more comtemporary and it being WG, makes it more versatile to wear. So it means I can wear it casually or informally. The movement is manual, which I guess is suppose to be good although the rear does not look as attractive as the auto. The Saxonia in rose gold, is for me, the best looking gold watch, even compared to the Patek Calatravas. I have eyed the Saxonia for a long while and this model, in 38.5mm is perfect in size as it is not too large for a gold watch and not too small either for modern watches. The only downside is that I probably will not get to wear a gold watch that much as I don;t normally dress formally for work. I like the auto movement but I understand that for Lange, they are prized for their manual movements. Decisions decisions! Help me along guys..both watches are wonderful and I can only afford one of them. I'm in my early 40s now and expect the watch to grow old with me. Which watch do you reckon I should get? Which watch will remain a timeless classic that will hold value that I can pass down the generations? Help pls! Pictures of the 2 watches below, courtesy of world tempus and trusted watches. |

Hey,
Great choices for both watches, i was eyeing Lange wtaches last year, however they were out of budget. My advice is to get the watch that you would wear more in this case the 1815. ( I have a dress gold watch for some time now, however i dont like to wear it casualy, so i ahve posted a thread 3 weeks ago asking for help, and have decided to go with Speedmaster ) So unless you want to buy 2 watches, my advice is to get the watch that you would wear on more occasions. both watches are great |

Both will stand the test of time IMO. Out of the two I do prefer the 1815 with the arabic numerals on one hand, but on the other hand I like gold watches to look like gold and for that reason I like the Saxonia. You can't really go wrong here.

That white Lange is absolutely gorgeous. Needless to say, that would be my choice.
Great watch either way. What a dilemma to have...

Appreciate the feedback guys...looks like the 1815 is in the lead. Not sure it's because it has a larger picture?! Anyone knows if white gold watches will get tainted over long periods of time. I know my white gold ring became tainted after many years but that could be due to the exposure to water elements. Appreciate any more inputs, especially about the movement and heritage.

I like the 1815 best, but for some reason I think Rose gold ages better and to me is more of a heirloom gold... Can the 1815 be had in Rose?

Lange is one of my favorite brands. If I were me, I'd go with the wg 1815
Either way, you're going to be happy. |

Saxonia in rose gold with the gray dial. Not particularly versatile, but beautiful nonetheless.

saxonia
get the saxonia rose gold manual wind 216.032 37mm. its just classier than the auto.
frankly an auto movement is just too much high technology for a classy anachronism like lange. its almost a bit steampunk-ish |

A big thank you to all you guys...appreciate the feedback! Does anyone knows how Lange makes their white gold watches? Do they use alloy of palladium or nickel or just rhodium plating? What happens when a white gold watch get scratches? Can it be polished off like normal SS watches? Thanks again guys...
