My AD has a Rolex tech onsite, so at least he should be able to properly take a look at it and make a professional recommendation.

As soon as I know more, I'll absolutely update the thread.

Thanks to all for the quick replies and words of encouragement.
Thanks for the update. S is from apprx 1993ish. It is very possible the watch hasn't been serviced. I would say many people that buy Rolexes just throw them on and wear until there is an issue. I know most of my family and friends are that way. Hopefully it's just bad seals in the tube and you can get it serviced and enjoy the watch for another 30 years. You will be in good hands now. I don't think you will have any really major issues due to the moisture. You acted quickly. Keep us posted.

Agree with others, seals are gone and needs a service. Should be some degree of waterproofness even when crown is unscrewed.

Good luck and keep us posted with the results.

AD called today with an estimate and suggested I sit down

It'll cost me $1500 to get it all serviced and squared away. This includes a service, new crystal, possibly new crown (i can't remember), polish and a new face. They said I need a new face because the water damages the lume, which will flake and disrupt the movement.

I was really hoping it would have come in around 1/2 that number. Oh well it's an expensive watch month. I added a new PAM to the collection and get to overhaul my sub

I'd get a 2nd opinion from Bob Ridley if it was me.

Well I finally got a chance to go in to talk to the AD and watchmaker. It's going to take about 6 weeks soup to nuts (acquiring new dial and bezel). I told them there was no rush.

It should almost be like getting a new watch when it is done. I am strangely excited to get the whole thing refreshed!

Well what happened sucks but I'm glad you are getting it fixed and will be happy. With a freshly serviced watch if you forget to screw the crown down you won't have this issue again (not that you would forget again)
