Out of curiosity, has anyone seen this article?
I read this tonight and sat there totally astounded, shocked and flabergasted...
http://www.askmen.com/fashion/mens-w...atch-snob.html What do you think? It's certainly one "snobs" opinion. |

The Watch Snob (there are actually about three writers who contribute under that title) knows his stuff, is quite opinionated, condescending, and as noted above, hilariously funny.
I like to read him as often as I can remember to do so.

Ah, I didn't know that there were multiple writers contributing under that name. But yep, his pieces are meant to have that "trolling" tone to them. It's part of the charm. Definitely take it with a grain of salt though!

LOL. I love how this guy is degrading Vacheron Constantin. He is comparing them to IWC and Panerai.
VC is no comparison to any of those, and should be compared to Patek Philippe. VC is on a way higher level than Rolex, Omega, Panerai, etc.. I would say I could agree to about everything else, but this guy has no idea about the quality and level VC is. Their watches are second to none and is up there with PP (lower than PP of course, but in that range however) |

Here's the problem, yes it's fun to read about him putting people (mostly novices) down, however if it is three people then it's an editors column and not the opinion of one trust-fund brat. Inherently that's dishonest, common and frankly ridiculous. I mean yes it's very tongue and cheek, the tone is comical and the advice sound, but I just don't like the idea of the content being debated and fine tuned in a boardroom to get the most reaction or to shock for the sake of shock.

VC is way up there compare to PP, Alange Sohne, and AP to be included. And of course Rolex is always
Rolex. Is a great reputable watch company:-) |

Vacheron is part of what is called the 'Holy Trinity of Watchmaking' along with Patek and AP. No one else!

I read more of "his" (their) articles last night and I get it now. The first article up above sort of threw me sideways but after reading some others I understand the "trolling" comments.
Loved the articles where someone wanted to buy a watch to match their clothes, that was pretty damn funy. |

Sure, I've seen it. This writer usually tries to provoke and create a bit of sensation with his writing. This time he is on to something though...

I thought his article was pretty good. Rolex is depicted as the laymen's luxury watch and due to mass market appeal will likely hold it's value due to it's brand recognition. Nothing really offensive or inaccurate I thought. The column is pretty funny though in its delivery. LOL.

It's an opinion column and that's what he/they express; opinions. Take it for what it's worth. It will be interesting to see if Panerai outlives the writer; they were certainly "born" before him.

One of the differences between intelligent and ignorent people? Intelligent people take in al the information they are given and process it to come to their own concluons based on their education, life experiences, morality and values. Ignorent people take everything they see and hear at face value. The watch snob is funny! He/they know it and so does any informed intelligent person, especially a WIS. Don't worry about the idiots of the world...there is nothing you can do for them that will change who they are.

I don't always agree with the Watch Snob and he (they) does contradict himself (themselves) sometimes, but when the Snob makes a pronouncement it is usually objectively based.

`makes no difference to me what someone writes for the sake of entertainment.Anyone that would be offended by anything this writer puts to paper is simply devoid of an opinion they can call their own.
Plenty of people care about watch brands for all kinds of reasons and most people will realize that their reasons for having that brand are worthwhile because they are their own. |

I actually like how he described Rolex in another article as being "aspirational without being too ostentatious".
