I will tell you what Ken told me. Tell your Mrs. that Rolex timepieces multiply at night! In all honesty try and go with her to the AD so she can see how it looks on you and give it a solid 5-6 months to warm her up to your purchase. You may be able to save some coin by going the preloved route. I will be sure to keep my eyes on your post Good luck!

She'll warm up to the idea, she always does. But it might take longer this time. Got two watches this past year already...

Just do what I do. Get it and feign ignorance and deflect. Observe:

- New watch?? It's always been there... You just don't take notice of my interests. In fact when was the last time you really listened to what I was saying about my hobby?!

Greg,
That situation requires the old "it doesn't mean anything baby" or "I've got needs" lines.

The new Explorer is quite nice....tried it on one time and was really surprised by its presence and ease of wear.

To be truthful, I'm a little down on Rolex these days....I think what it was is no longer (or, rather, it hasn't been for some time, and I can no longer deny it). But, from your post, I have hope that this is just a phase, like you, and I will find my way back.

At least I still have the Hulk to lust after.

Would you let one of the PAMs or Sub-Date go to make this happen?

Truth be told, I have not been excited at all about modern Rolex.  I am finding out I prefer the old lighter ones.  I bought the IIc on a whim.  Showed up at AD and bought it first time I ever saw it.  PCL's and overall weight just wasn't for me.  Sold it at a loss later.  Haven't really regretted the sale.

I will take my time on the 214270 purchase.  Want to make sure it isn't just lust right now.  I like that it is very low profile in terms of height and the watch simple molds to my wrist perfectly.  The bracelet is also smaller and lighter.  A plus for me.  I like the older light bracelets that some call tuna can clasps or something.  They are light and they work!

Rather long answer but no flips are being planned at this time, but I'm not rushing out to get a 39mm explorer either.  Who knows, maybe the perfect 5513 will fall out of the sky also...

Hey Mik, if that ever happens I hope you'll return my watch. My wife keeps telling me that I'm going to lose something very important one of these days if I don't give up GA flying.

Well there's your answer as to what to tell the Mrs, just say a complete stranger who doesn't know you just knew that you wanted an Explorer and that it's clearly some sort of karma, it'd be bad luck not to get it now... ;-)
