Otto, Tokyo and Rolex. Great Day!

Last Friday up to Tokyo for business, pleasure and a mandatory finally meet up with my senpai ( senior respected colleague ) Otto!

Met up with him in Shinjuku and then on a guided tour of the Rolex paradise that Tokyo is with no better man than Otto to show us around.

Hit I want to say 4 Rolex shops. 3 grey dealers with amazing selections ( and prices ) and the Rolex boutique in the Ginza. Sold my GMT II C that I wanted to sell for a decent price and tried on a bunch of watches. Almost pulled the trigger on a few that really caught my eye. A full package F serial faded bezel LV Sub. About $5,000 US. What a steal. A closer look revealed a hole like almost a rust hole right near the pearl on the bezel. The salesperson admitted as much that that is why the low price. I passed. My girl loved the diamond dial Datejust II.

At the boutique where the prices were insane we all tried on the Platinum Day Date II with the blue Roman concentric dial. Oh my! Like weight lifting training with a watch on. Man that felt so great on your wrist and just stunning.

Then off to the Saporro Beer Hall in the Ginza for what else... some Saporro Beer!

I did not want to say goodbye to Otto. Definitely made myself a new great friend. Thanks Otto for your hospitality. I hope to repay it some day!

Yes I do have pics. Having one heck of a time loading them on to here. Please be patient with me.

Let me throw this one back up properly spun around. Otto looks like I am going to steal that Platinum Day Date II off his wrist! The saleswoman here and at all the places we went to were very polite, knowledgable and let us try on whatever we wanted without complaint. Helped that between the three of us we had our own little collection going on on our wrists! She kept thanking us for being loyal Rolex customers and because of this wonderful forum we dazzled her with our arcane Rolex knowledge and facts.

At the Sapporro Beer Hall in the Ginza with me and my blue ceramic Sub, my girl and her mid size Yachtmaster and Otto and his stunning Day Date II! We had a great day thanks to Otto and my girl was a great sport cheering me on to buy something and ready for the next Rolex shop! She loved it!

If you come back again then we need to do a GTG. I am a bit far from Tokyo though.

Great shots Tom!!! Nice to see you.

Otto is a true gentleman and a great "watch guide." My wife and I enjoyed meeting up with him at Jack Road a couple of years ago. I ended up getting a little something for my wife at "Betty Road" in the same mall. What great service. US ADs could take some lessons from that indie shop.

My only regret that trip was passing on a mint M series SS Daytona :-(

I need to return to Japan!

Please! Come back. We have to make a huge get together. Life is too short and Tokyo is too much of an amazing Rolex heaven!

I love these threads. They really get me in vacation mode!

It's a shame I didn't see too many Of these boutiques in Tokyo. So, with Ginza being the upscale shopping district that it is, is it the place to go if one is looking for a used Rolex?

No, you want to go to Nakano. That is where the grey dealers are and they have a wide selection of used Rolex.

Ginza has the Rolex boutique. All Rolex, all new, no discounts. Insane prices.
