Just stopped working "again"

I have a 20 year old Oyster Perpetual Date watch. First year after purchase it stopped working. Sent it to NYSC Almost $600 to "rebuild" the watch. In 2007 it stopped again, sent it to NYSC Almost $600 to "rebuild" it again. January this year (2012) it stopped working again. Is this normal for an over $3,000 watch? Or am I being taken on a regular basis? Really like the watch when it's working. Not sure what to do. Would appreciate some advice. Also, I can't find email addresses for any of the Rolex facilities. Do they not communicate via email?

First, I think this thread will be moved, but your situation sounds unusual. I can't help but wonder if it's something your doing? Do you run a jack hammer for a living ? Has it been the same issue every time? To bad it's not a car you could get it replaced under the lemon law .

I am a Nurse Practitioner working in a clinic. Have never done anything with the watch on that would shock the mechanism. The NY SC people said the watch would be "rebuilt completely, twice. Not sure if I should trust them a third time. So far out about $1,200.00 in repairs. I was sure to keep the watch wound as per the directions.

If you live in Albuquerque, why not visit Beauchamp Jewelers at 7017 Menaul NE.

They have an excellent watchmaker there, who can give you some answers face to face. I highly recommend him.

Fellow NP here. I have a newer DJ, no problems at all. Usually the older watches like yours seem to have less problems. I would def go to the previously recommended local jeweler/watch repair. Most times your local high end jewelers that have a watch tech can give you a lot of info and even fix most problems without sending the watch in to RSC.

I shattered the crystal of my DJ which can damage the movement and my local Rolex dealer has a fantastic watch tech and I didn't have to send it to RSC. It only cost $150 instead of $600.

Call that jeweler listed above!!

This may be a dumb question - but do you work around magnetic fields? MRI machine, maybe?

It is unusual, but not unheard of... My wife's old DJ took 3 trips back to the "shop" before the issues were ironed out (thankfully under warranty).

Thanks!

Just want to say thanks for the great suggestions.

I'm new at the BLOG thing, tried sending a response a little while ago, not sure if it went through. Disregard this if it did.

Best wishes to you all.
