Does this watch have the DEEPSEA beat?

Found this very interesting watch, to say the least. It dwarfs the DEEPSEA
and looks pretty reputable

Well definitely not the depth and not the width BUT maybe weightwise and heightwise?. It weighs 267 grams and height is 29mm. Anyone has specs on the DSSD Challenge?

Something for my wife.
She love big watches.
Bigger than this I guess the only solution is buying the Big Ben . . .

Not the "my watch can go deeper than yours" argument... You can't survive deeper than 1000ft... I will never understand...

What a ghastly watch - at least the Deep Sea has style which this doesn't. I wouldn't have the courage to wear such a watch in public for fear of being ridiculed, but I guess if it was used purely as a tool watch for diving its a different story.

According to Rolex:

DeepSea: 44mm diameter / 17.7mm thickness
DeepSea Challenge: 51.4mm diameter / 28.5mm thickness

Compared to that yellow beast, Rolex managed to go even deeper with less thickness. I'd say Rolex FTW

This cx 20000 feet seems to be only 46mm wide ---so 5mm less than the cx.
But yes, definitely have to give it to ROLEX for reaching the bottom of the ocean with a 28.5 mm watch and the cx can only go 20K ft with 28.55mm. That tells you the technology Rolex has put into it.

But if you find the CX to be an abomination, there is no way you can love the DSSD Challenge watch. I can not see anyone loving a monstrosity like the DSSD challenge but hating the cx.

If ROLEX hadmade a bezel thick enough to surround the lens, the same way DSSD's surrounds the lens, then the DSSD Challenge would
have looked awesome.Right now as it stands, the crsytal sticking out like that looks really really dumb.

2 things: Did you actually write: "...CX can only go 20,000 feet..."?

I disagree on the crystal, I think it's cool, reminiscent of the super domed crystals of the old Subs.

Hey, how'd they get the crown to point straight up??? :)

THat's what they claim. Why...you don't think so? Infact they claim it can go 25K but they only write 20K due to the same reasons Rolex underwrites their depths on their dials- Liability issues.

I just found this:

I am thinking of getting one but I wonder how the resale value will be of this watch?

Well when you think of it IMHO it was more of a technical achievement with the first Rolex Trieste deep dive in January 1960.Now in those days no computers to design and to simulate a case test or even be able to pressure test to that depth. So they just built a case which the thought would stand the pressure. Now today with computer design and the software to simulate these pressures on the surface and expect now to pressure check in some sort of chamber today. So with the better materials and with computer design help it was far easier to build a case strong enough to withstand the pressure with a movement inside and test it first with the powerful computers we have today.Although a technical achievement for Rolex for myself the biggest achievement was the challenger it self.

Must say from what I've seen I wouldn't necessarilly mind the case width of the DS Challenge watch but visually the protruding crystal would be a no go as it looks ridiculous. It would be better if the edges were radiused and chamfered but I assume that would reduce its strength.

Just seems funny to say a watch only goes 20,000 feet deep. :)

Great points Padi56 but all 3 watches, the original DeepSea from the 60s, the DSSD Challenge and this CX 20k, they have been put through the actual depth tests. For the CX, you can see the video on youtube. The the former 2, history is the proof.

Anyone knows anything about this company called CHARMEX of Switzerland?
I like the watch but can not get much info on the company. THe watch definitely
has proven itself according to that you tube video but if the company sucks and
tormorrow the watch stops ticking, then what do I do? But if the company was
crappy then how could they produce awatch like this?

I'd guess of you do have a problem, it has to go to their HQ in Switzerland, if nothing else, for the pressure test upon reassembly.

My limited understanding is this company has some sort of connection to the Swiss military, not to be confused with the Swiss army brand watches.
