Sourcing a Bezel
I have been trying to find a blue bezel insert for a 79090 blue tudor sub, talk about rare....it's like trying to find a four leaf clover
I finally put a WTB on VRF and got two responses; both included the whole bezel not just the insert and both were NOS with the box and everything... Both sellers gave me prices of $500.......ya right |

Have you tried emailing all the usual vintage dealers? Jacek, Steve, etc?
Won't a 1680 insert fit the 79090 assuming you can find a nice faded blue one? Then again you'll probably pay a premium again for one and you're probably looking for that NOS blue. I'll keep my eyes open at any rate. Have you considered an aftermarket one? Granted not genuine but it might be interesting to try one to see if it works while you continue the search. |

don't know if $500 for NOS insert and bezel was so far
out of line - here's a shot of a NOS 79090 insert w/tritium insert i picked, by itself, for $500
that small pearl in the center is a tritium pearl i had separate but i posted a portion of this shot sometime back, here on this forum, questioning if the pearl in the insert was actually tritium - for some reason my brain was locked on (incorrectly) that tritium was phased out in the mid 70s and thinking it should have more patina to it. I'd forgotten tritium wasn't phased out till the mid-late 90s back to point, i may have overpaid some, but i wanted an accurate tritium pearl'd insert for a 79090 basket case i had coming in |

I paid 300 for my blue insert. Only reason being I have a black dial.
If you have a blue insert why not go to an AD and order one or does your AD not have a parts account?

You nailed it here. Bezel inserts are around $65 from an authorized dealer.

In the open market, $500 for a insert and bezel complete is not overpriced IMHO. If you don't like it, go to Rolex and see what they have to say.

The last bezel I purchased from Rolex (RSC/Dallas) was for a Tudor big block chrono model 79160. (This model has the numbers stamped in the bezel like a Daytona so there is no insert.) The cost was $150 which included a mandatory pressure test. I agree with the others here that $500 is outrageous.

yeah, but bezel inserts for the 79090 are no longer
available from rolex, or last i'd heard. i've got a rolex svc agent tell me he had
two in reserve and hopefully i'll see them in my lifetime (he's had my 94110 in for spa treatment for awhile now) to be frank, all the prices we pay are obscene - that tritium pearl insert loose inside the bezel insert above, i paid $150 for it. Looks like it's fairly easy to see visually, right? when it came in, it was about the size of a large grain of sand - had to call the wife over, laughing, holding a loupe for her to use saying "honey, look what we just paid $150 for" sorry, but this whole pastime is absurd but we enjoy it so we do it, what can i say |

When I went in asking if I could have a blue insert put in my 9411 which was sporting a black insert he said and I quote: "Sure. If it had a blue insert to begin with." So I asked him what if I put a faded insert on it that you couldn't tell what color it originally was but looked blue. He said and I quote: "Sure. If it had a blue insert to begin with." Needless to say, I got myself a blue insert on the open market which was really hard to swallow. |

If the bezel, or bezel insert, is no longer available from Rolex, then the price would be based on demand and current market sales. Supply and demand can drive the prices much higher than what they retailed for before being discontinued.
