Question... The older non-date subs used to have the COSC writing on the dial? That first pic. is throwing me for a loop.... Are they just bringing that old style back now with the "M" serial numbers.
The non-date sub is by far my favorite watch, here's some pics. of mine. Sorry for the crappy pics., I think I need a new camera. |

What you're looking at are two different references. The 5512 was a COSC piece, while the 5513 was not. The 5512 is the rarer of the two and commands more $$$ comparing apples to apples. Very early 5512s appeared without the additional writing changing with the advent of the latter 5513. |

Thanks Mike, so are all ND subs cosc certified. I know mine didn't come with the little COSC tag but I have heard in the past that they were certified. Anyway, I know mine runs within cosc specs.....It better right, it's a Rolex after all.

The movement used, however, has been the exact movement used in the Air-King and Explorer. My 14060M, without COSC is one of the most accurate I have, ~+1 sec per day, and I can keep it pretty much right on by laying it crown down at night. |

As Larry so correctly indicated, the reference 5512 was discontinued circa 1978 as most people prefered to purchase the less expensive 5513. Untill this year no ND carried a COSC label, but indeed the watch has proven to be amazingly accurate. The move by Rolex to include the 14060M in the COSC arena seems to be more marketing than anything else, but the collector in me can't help wonder about future valuations of this piece should Rolex move to a beefier case and ceramic bezel for it's diver models. It could be one of the shortest runs of any reference. |
