Just out of curiosity, who are you to judge GWalker, and furthermore, anyone for having Rolex at a young age? I find your contributions to this thread to be in poor taste, to say the least

I'm glad you know me oh so well, because obviously I am so spoiled. I'm glad some of the people on here are being helpful on here and giving me good advice. For them thanks, it means a lot.

I'm not the one with the issue. I respect the hell out of anyone that works hard for their things but when they act jealous of others that got them as a gift is just sad. How many young people do you actually know with Rolexes??? Or is your assumption just based on a stereotype???

I think it's awesome that an 18 year old wants a mechanical timepiece that he will be able to cherish for years to come. P.S No hard feelings intended with the pic just trying to lighten up the thread

X2.
If you can buy it on your own, more power to you but with so many unknowns in your very near future, spending thousands on a Rolex might not be a smart choice. You definitely don't want it to be a liability. If you are expecting your parents to foot the the bill, look in the mirror and check yourself. If your car insurance and cell phone isn't in your own name you need to be thinking about other things besides an expensive timepiece. I could maybe see that as a college grad present...lawyer, doctor etc. Regardless how and when, definitely a Submariner date and congrats on the grad Last edited by Rowe; 26 April 2012 at 01:00 PM.. My childhood motivated me to be different and achieve the nicer things in life through hardwork, goal setting and an education. I purchased my first Rolex this year at the age of 30. Not a single person I know personally or in my family owns one. To me it is something very special that I have been able to acquire and I cherish the thought of one day passing it down to my oldest son....and hopefully getting another one That being said though, I would be turned off from the idea if I thought he was expecting it because that is not the type of child I have raised. But he definitely had to have a $130 pair of tennis shoes this year so I guess we shall see. |

I think a Sub would make a nice graduation gift. I asked for a divers watch for my high school graduation in 85 and received a 16800. I wore it all through college (very small Midwestern University) and still wear it to this day. I know few who still have their graduation gifts. Most of my friends got a car or motorcycle and it was trashed within the first year or two of graduating. My father passed away a few years ago and his graduation gift to me, means more than it ever did.

My best high school graduation gift = a debt free college education... I'd rather put the money towards school expenses as things just pop out (broken car, books, beers (?))

Thanks for the ones encouraging me, ever since I knew that my grandfather wore a rolex I have seen rolex as a sign of class. I have always wanted one since then. I know I will own one someday, but if graduation isn't the time and money wise it's okay. If it isn't the time I'm looking at Gshocks, is there anything else I should be looking out?

What I have to say is my opinion, I can't speak for the OP but I will tell you this:
I'm a student, no student loan (because studying here isn't that expensive. Do not understand me wrong, studying surely isn't free, but it is certainly not something you should loan money for here). I pay everything myself, all my bills etc. I have no legal liabilities to anyone. I have worked for my first rolex, and if anything, I only wish I could have bought it sooner, so I could enjoy it longer. I bought the rolex with 100% self-earned money. I bought the watch a year ago, when I was 20, at a fair price, and got an offer last week at my AD, they had a customer that was looking for my watch (pepsi 16710), and he was willing to spend way more than what I paid for it. I turned the offer down only because I enjoy my watch too much. I say, if you feel comfortable buying it (I would advice you a 16610 or 16710 btw), then I see absolutely no reason why you shouldn't. |

Rubbish. I will never appreciate a watch more than the one my parents got me for my 21st birthday. It is the watch I baby the most and the only watch I have that I will never sell. Fake Rolex's are extremely common and you could say the same of anyone wearing them. Anyone that knows watches will know if your watch is real. Anyone who I care about would ask me and I would tell them it's real. The other people don't really matter. Age has nothing to do with it. If you saw a 19 year old in a Bentley with a nice suit on and a 34 year old driving a truck in shorts who would you assume was wearing a fake ? (assuming you're someone who doesn't know about watches enough to tell from looking) |

I don't have a budget really yet, If I don't have enough by graduation to pay it completely off myself, I'm going to be working this summer to do so. I'm wanting SS. I was looking for suggestions really. I want something that looks nice, and that can be worn for any type of situation.
