That's too bad. All Rolex's are great watches. That guy has no reason to say that. Sure, I absolutely adore the 16610. But the 116610LV, is a really special watch. It is not for everyone, but it is fun spotting them in the wild.

Good photo! I'm thinking of going for a 116610LV, but I have noticed that it frequently fails to look as good in photos as it does in the metal; that's not the case here, though!

I never comment on a strangers watch.

If it's really nice I ogle it for a while.

That's what TRF is for. You get to stare at and comment on nice watches without the fear of some idiot snapping at you.

Sounds like the guy is ignorant on the watch front and is clearly an a$$hole.

Hell I commented on my cousin's DDYG on Mother's Day and he looked at me like I was crazy. I was hoping since I just purchased a rollie we'd be able to talk about em, NOPE.

Most people who act defensive are usually protecting their fragile egos or scared.
So ignore their comments.

Sadly I've had similar experiences and no longer initiate any watch talk with strangers.

Still can't for the life of me figure out why the negative responses.

Too bad you were treated that way. I recently saw a nice datejust and when I commented on it the guy looked at his watch and then looked at me like I was an idiot and said "This is a Rolex!" I just walked away. Not worth explaining that I used the model name.

Funny but I got an almost identical comment from someone about my 116619. "Damn! I thought it was real" and I just let it roll off my back.

I think some people are defensive when they realise a stranger has spotted that they have something very valuable on their wrist.

strange guy, at the very least he could have been polite if he didn't want to get into a conversation. If you see me in starbucks feel free to compliment me on my 16610 and I'll buy you a latte, life's to short for hang ups. anyway you wear a handsome watch so take his comments with a pinch of salt

You should have bet the price of your watch. Seriously, because it was a public offense.
So you tell him: I bet the price of a Submariner my watch is a real Rolex. And then you grab your I.Phone or whatever Smart Phone, you reach the Rolex official Web Site and you show him the LV Rolex pictures. Then, you do not demand the money, you just shout out in the crowd that he is a jerk.

A friend of mine did so in similar circumstances.

no offense but how much more insecure can you be?

Someoene doesnt acknowledge your priced watch? Who gives a shit? It doesnt affect your life and hopefully not your self worth.

How about just man up and walk way ...

Thanks for the reality check here.

We are playing a game of using our eagle eyes to spot and "compliment" others with discriminating tastes in watches, expecting reciprocity (my schwantz is just as big as yours!). Faux outrage ensues when we are "ridiculed", even after we embark on a fruitless attempt to educate the offender.....

Either you re-evaluate your behavior or you can take the advice of others here and take a swing at a Starbucks barista and see what happens...... ?

In my opinion, watch conversations should be left to GTG and here on TRF.

Most people don't even know what they are wearing and others think you are going to slip it off their wrist and steal their watch......

What a very odd reply to a very polite comment. Further proof that money doesn't buy class.

That person at Starbucks needs a good dose of humility.

Rude...maybe he's the one wearing a fake sub and didnt want to strike any further conversation with you so as not to embarass himself.

You've got a cool watch and know what it's worth.

This is the kind of Rolex wearer that makes the non-Rolex wearer think we're all bad.
